Welcome to Gaia! ::

I am you average college student. Well, almost. I just happen to be Native American. So yes, before you read any further, know that my opinion is going to be very biased. That being said, here we go:

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS REVERSE DISCRIMINATION. I said it, let's end this bullshit. I'm sick and tired of whiny white bitches complaining how 'quotas' and 'affirmative action' are ruining their chances of getting a job or getting into school. That's straight up garbage. White people have no IDEA what discrimination is. If you knew, white guys, you would NOT be singing the same tune.

Sure, you've endured some persection right? Guess what, everybody has! I'm not talking about some jackass giving you a hard time because he doesn't like you. I'm talking about a systematic destruction of your self-confidence specifically because of your race. You don't know what its like to have someone say to you, "You can't graduate from college, because Native Americans aren't supposed to go to college." I know how that feels. Have you had the uttermost feeling of loss when you've one of 200 students of your race on campus, a campus of 25000 students. I didn't think so.

NOBODY is going to tell me that I made it into college solely because of affirmative action. Oh, but people have tried. They've bitched on and on about how somebody with some amazing SAT score didn't get accepted because of reverse discrimination. Well, that s**t reasoning.

What I want is somebody to TELL me why reverse discrimination is a reality. I'm SICK AND TIRED of defending my race. This is not my argument. Tell ME why it exists. Go ahead, try.

Oh yeah, I don't care how grammatically incorrect this topic is, or if it isn't coherent. I'm really pissed about what some white guy had the nerve to say to me. Just respond to the last portion, k?
You missed the boat on this one, buddy- reverse discrimination doesn't exist because it's a paradox. No matter who you're discriminating against, and who discriminated against you, you're still being discriminating. None of this "reverse" bullpucky, okay? Jesus, people, pay attention to your semantics.
Reverse discrimination Only exists as much as Discrimination does.

Except Discrimination is in people's minds.

...And Reverse Discrimination is Legislated.
If you didn't get in on affirmitive action laws, why the heck don't you try to repeal them? If they don't do anybody any harm nor good, why don't you get rid of them?
Yeah, you pasty white assholes deserve it.
Reverse racism is alive and well with a nice thick blanket. There are all sorts of clever ways of hiding it. When I was in high school I was told of a clever ploy one school had pulled to keep their reverse racism healthy - since they weren't allowed to hand out funds of some sort to kids just for being Mexican anymore, they started handing them out to kids who "spoke excellent Spanish". And it just so happened that the Mexicans all spoke better Spanish than the non-Mexicans.

But yes, SAT scores is no basis for bitching about reverse racism. A person's SAT scores doesn't say a thing about their social behaviour, their participation in class, their attendance records, etc. If I got good SAT scores but never showed up for school otherwise, because I was busy getting high and kicking a hobo's puppy, you bet your a** that black, hispanic, and Asian kids would be favored over me for a place in some school.

Ow... that kinda hurt.
Look maybe it's different where you are but where I am what you call reverse-descrimination is alive and well. In my town the white population is the minority and as such is picked on, you are likely not to get jobs because you are white, you are likely to be beaten because you are white. All many of things simply because of your skin colour.

Yes, but he wanted to use the term 'reverse-descrimination' so I used it to to make sure he got the point.

You should know I'm being completely serious about it.
Reverse Discrimination, how I see it, is discrimination against the majority to unfairly help the minority. So that's how I'm discussing it in the post. This is NOT a discussion of semantics, ok? I'm discussing a thought that has squeezed its way into the common white idiot (not saying all idiots are white, or all whites are idiots).

Formic: Who the hell is 'You'. I haven't tried to end affirmative action because I haven't been elected to political office, or am of sufficient political influence where I could lobby such legislature.

In reality, I wouldn't want to end affirmative action.

Without affirmative action, many minority students from small, underpaid rural and urban schools (which can in no way compare to well-funded schools). Would have no chance of getting into college. Also, many minority students come from families with incomes below the poverty line. Couple this with the fact that many minority students are first generation college students leads to affirmative action being a necessity right now.

Look, I see where your coming from, and maybe in America it's true. But in Australia it's not, Aboriginees are our minority and they are openly discriminated for in favour of anyone else, be they white, asian or martian.
