Oh s**t son, owned.

Well done good sir, well done.
My mom refrained from getting me circumcised because she finds it to be child abuse, genital mutilation, etc. My little brother was circumcised (his dad wanted it, and my mom agreed after a lot of coercion) and my mom had to leave the room. It's one of the few things she says she'll regret for the rest of her life.

It makes sense. This is why I've decided that unless my future male child needs one for medical reasons (phimosis etc.) I won't subject him to some ritualistic and cosmetic procedure, just so that I can feel good that I adhered to American society's idea of the perfect set of male genitals.

I don't even know why I feel strongly about this, but its just one of those things that gets to me.
It's a blatant violation of bodily integrity and human rights as dictated by U.S. LAW. There's plenty of reason to feel strongly about it.

yet it's not illegal. Explain to me why it's not illegal if it is a violation of US Law?
Strictly opinion-based personal interpretation of the law. If you cannot cut other parts of the body off that are necessary for complete function, why can you cut off the foreskin? It has an actual purpose in being present. You are violating a human being's right to consent. The parent would not be able to force their child to be circumcised if the child was old enough to actually voice a protest, but apparently a screaming baby doesn't count. Oh wait, some of them cry so hard they can't even make audible sounds.

If it was as horrific as some make it out to be, it would be illegal, not subject to your opinion of legality.
This isn't just about Jewish people getting it done

DOCTORS from all over the world are saying its the rage to get your p***s cut

water hits it from all angles in the shower so when ur baby or a lil kid it gets clean all the tiem in the shower or bathtub

Are you Jewish? This isn't about America, at all, this is about Jewish practises.

Yes, and I stated earlier in the thread something to the effect that I understand that for Jews its a matter of obligation, the real reason why people (and myself specifically) have issues with it is when its done for cosmetic or other related reasons.

I certainly don't hold anything against Jewish families who decide as a matter of faith to circumcise their sons. But, at the same time, it seems like if we accept that genital mutilation is a matter of faith, then we open the door to excusing FGM, arguably a somewhat more barbaric and damaging practice.

FGM is extremely damaging. Most women who have it done can never have sex ever in their lives and enjoy it. Yes, I know there are other types, but mostly the whole hood is severed.

What is legal isn't always what is moral or right. The prevailing trend/practice in America is to circumcise, and therefore because that's what people have "always" done, there's no impetus to stop it. Laws and legal systems tend to protect and observe customs, so...

There is no significant medical reason that would suggest that circumcision is better. The only noticeable advantage, which is the decreased chance of contracting HIV/AIDS, is a ******** scapegoat because people justify using it as an alternative to SAFE SEX, which you should be having anyway.

Find me a doctor that can come up with a decent reason to get your child circumcised, from a medical point of view that doesn't have to do with HIV/AIDS related "advantages", and find me a legit article by that doctor.

I don't care about America. Usually things that are harmful have prohibitions against them.

Many real things having to do with circumcision are ignored because of public preference.

And some men and anti-circumcision activists report that men lose a significant or at least comparable level of sexual sensitivity or ability to enjoy intercourse.

Are the two the same? No, but the issue remains that there are strong parallels between the two practices.

Also: Do you live in Israel? Or do you live in America? Because then it is relevant.

I don't see why you would excuse circumcision on the basis of religious sensitivity. Barbaric religious practices have been outlawed before.

See, this thread was just meant to be about the adherence to religious law.

I live in neither country.

Then your thread title ought to have been clearer? That aside, if we just accept that people should adhere to religious law, things are going to get dicey in multi-faith secular societies.

Fair enough, but this thread was also bait for someone who was foreskin obsessed.

That's true, but I really do worry about the slippery slope. You know, there for the grace of god go I.
