Religion, in my opinion, started out as a way for people to have a reason to live. To give an answer to the unanswerable question "Why are we here." This whole control thing is just mankind putting their own spins on the same general idea, we should "do" the god we believe in says (not counting atheism or some other religion that I can't think of off the top of my head). Mankind has butchered ideals that god said we should abide by in the Old testament (I'm a jew). We have added so much bull butter onto great ideas that it was impossible to avoid any sort of hierarchy in a religion. Basically what I'm trying to say is that mankind messed up something great.

Well, we spaniard destroyed an entire civilisation in the name of God, but we have matured, and nowadays most europe countries have the goverment completly separated from the church, so we don-t give a s**t about what Vatican says, in fact now in spain the church is really pissed with the goverment because the completly ignore their silly appointments, and the gorvement has been reelected, so that means, people likes this way.
