Murder for sure is worse. Plenty of people can learn to deal with being raped and live normal happy lives. It's definitely traumatic, but there is life after rape.
That sounds right. There's time to heal after rape. After death, you're gone.

The only valid censorship of ideas is the right of people not to listen.

Secondly. Because rape is a more taboo subject. It permanently scars people emotionally unlike murder because, well, your dead.

that depends on the person and the situation. i was raped and i've never felt scarred from it.

murder is worse because, well, you're dead.

imo.

So to make the two equal you're suggesting there be more rape scenes as opposed to cutting down on violent scenes? Do you want people to be number or more sensitive to these issues?

yeah that's wierd. the last thing we need in the media is more encouragement to do bad things. people are desensitized enough.

Personally I prefer folks to have a great threshold for both scenes.

So when it happens in real life people will say, "honey, look. Those kids from forty-deuce are at it again over there"?

Oh but one must assume life is preferable to death in this case.

Probably is. The dead have no opinion and I know rape victims who are perfectly fine.

Well I am an a**... did I make you one too?

I'm just saying that rape doesn't necessarily ruin your life forever.

Theyre both horrible. there are no exceptions. You may take a life away literally but the life of the person you raped will always be in the absolute horror that one day it may happen again. I mean its rape. you don't see it coming obviously, so the person is always going to be looking over their back wondering when its gonna happen next. The person probably wont trust any male or female again...

But death probably means no suffering as well. Which is infinitely better than living.

Yup! I'm an a** indeed. I type with it, too.

I'd rather be raped than killed :O

But yeah, people are just horrified of sex.

EDIT: Another example is how video games with killing are no big deal, but people freak out about video games with sex, consensual or otherwise. Hmrrrh confused

You're just a growing boy, that's why you say that.

i'm going to assume that its the same reason that Jesus is showed bruised, bloody, and maimed dying on the cross, but he still has a loincloth.

for hundreds of years, we'd also hang people in public streets to make an example.

my point: the human race is much more comfortable seeing heavy violence than forced sex. i can't say why, or even if its right, but whatever.

let's face it, sometimes violence IS the only answer.

How is surrendering of the body more offensive than extinguishing a life?

I recently had a short debate regarding the movie "Irreversible", a very psycho-violent French flick starring Monica Bellucci ending with her raped for 20 minutes. (Yeah, they showed it).

More comments leaned towards how awful the idea. The morality. That viewers walked out of the theater once anticipating the scene. I wasn't moved.

I raised that we can sit through mind-numbing hours of murders & suicides. Shot up, cut up, strangled, burned alive, you name it. It's in our screens & literature. Saw's a big hit; on the 6th movie, right? That's cool & encouraged! A violent act leading to murder can be simulated & witnessed without controversy. Why not rape? Murder lost its seriousness. I would think they'd be of equal concern.

My take? I don't think it's a moral issue- that would encourage a double-standard. I plainly believe we're used to it. Violence appears more than sex on screen maybe? Perhaps we need as frequent rape scenes to grow accustomed.

You tell me.

As a rape survivor I can tell you this because the victim is left to pick up the pieces. Ya murder victims leave loved ones behind. But rape victims have families too and it will affect every relationship they are in after that. It happed I guess 5 years ago now and it has taken this long to get where I am. However I had asthma attack at the start of each class when I started college because he's still out there and the stress of maybe he's in my class was so much. I don't know what would happen if I actually saw him. I can go into more detail but I think you get my point

Murder can also be thought of as mercy if the person wanted to die or had a faith that said they would get into heaven. The saw movies are more of a hit because it is making people pay for their wrongs and fight for their lives. Its about survival and justice. I no purpose in a 20 minute rape scene. I for one would leave the theater right away because it would give me flashbacks. Murder victims are dead so they don't live to have flashbacks.
