Welcome to Gaia! ::

Okay to start out i have nothing against any race i think we are ALL EQUAL but i do have an issue with foriegn people coming and living in my country and speaking their own language all the time. I feel that all the differnt natinalitys are destroying my countrys natural heritage. I have friends who arn't english who are lovely people but it does bother me when they don't behave like english people when they live here. If we go out there we have to follow their customs so why don't they follow ours? I don't think the olden days when other races were forced to be slaves is right because were all equal. I would like to hear your thoughts on this matter.
It would suck if we truly were all equal. And be terribly boring.

I would have gone on and on about how each people with their own language, culture and heritage should have their own nation and GTFO everyone else's.

But now I really don't have that much good will, so screw them.
To my mind, nationality is entirely arbitrary. I do think that, for their own sake, immigrants should attempt some measure of integration with the culture of the nation they move to, as it makes life much easier for them if they accept that they're going to have to change their lives somewhat. Ghettoisation only breeds tensions and serves to isolate people. And obviously, if you're going to move to a new country, you have to be prepared to observe the laws of that nation.
But that aside, I'm cool with it. Immigration serves to improve our economy and enrich our culture. I think we all learn more about the world by living side by side with people of different backgrounds than if we all shut ourselves off. It's a pity that so often people react to what they don't know by immediately deciding it's bad, instead of trying to find out more about it.
I'm very fond of England but, really, it's just a bit of land that by pure luck you happened to be born in. It's just territory. The lines could so easily have been drawn somewhere else. Any of us could so easily have been born anywhere else. To my mind, we're all citizens of the world. As an immigrant, one has to be prepared to adapt to an unfamiliar nation, but at the same time, people of any nation should be prepared to welcome unfamiliar people as fellow human beings.

America is a melting pot of cultures, Ideas ,languages and traditions why stop others from adding their bit to the pot?
If you're gonna come to my country, speak the language unless you plan on being a tourist. Otherwise, get the hell out, or learn the language! if we went to mexico they would expect us to speak Spanish, so they should speak english here!

But America is a country where you can be free to speak whatever language you want.

True It would not hurt for everyone to speak a little english but no need to be so closeminded about others, you could always learn their language as well...

Be specific, please: what "natural heritage" of England is being destroyed by which "foreign people?"

I have not noticed the English bending over backwards to observe native customs in other countries. You can't throw a brick on the Costa Del Sol without hitting an Englishman (and a good thing, too). Likewise, there are those several century long sojourns in such exotic climes as India, Burma, Egypt, South Africa, Hong Kong, and others, that have left the Earth strewn with pubs, tea shops, fish and chips, and warm beer.

On the other hand, I find it gratifying to see that the text-speak plague has not just infested the US.

It always makes me burst into laughter when Americans b***h about immigration. Unless you're Native American, you've got no right, really. And heck, without immigration, the US would still be rolling plains, deserts and mountains inhabited by nomadic tribes, instead of the world's most powerful nation. (Not that that justifies the shitty way the Native Americans were treated, but go with me here.)

Of course, trace it far enough back and we're all immigrants. Being largely of Anglo-Saxon ancestry, like most white British people, I should ******** off back to Germany and leave this country to the Celts. And they should get back into Europe. And the Europeans should retreat and leave their continent to the Neanderthals, and so on and so forth until we're back where we started, on some unknown plain in Africa. But I think that'd be overdoing it, just to prove a point.
But...you still don't like having foreign people in your country, and they're only ok if they're not in your country? Yeah, no, you're pretty racist.

I would prefer rolling plains, deserts and mountains inhabited by nomadic tribes.

Honestly.
