I stumbled across some interesting Ted Talks the other day. They're really quite interesting and quite scary.
Also, very persuasive.

The Great Porn Experiment

Why I stopped watching porn

What do you guys think.

Edit:
I would like to point out that I myself am still a little on the skeptical side of all this, and in no way am I implying that this applies to all men, nor am I excluding women from this.

Largely baseless fear-mongering. Male sexuality is being demonized and men are being encouraged to desire traditionally female notions of intimacy. "Real sex is romantic!" "Viewing pornography inevitably leads to addiction." "You won't be able to have sex with normal women anymore!" The agenda is transparent.

The more Ted Talks I watch, the more I realize they're garbage. talk2hand

Yeah, psychological studies on men who watch porn are totally baseless.

As for the rest of your post, you sound like one of those men that tote the idea that feminists want superiority to men. Agenda, that's a laugh.

Dude, in the first few minutes the guy explains that virtually all of these studies had no control group. Great start! He also defines "real sex" which is a superb example of the no true scotsman fallacy.

And here you are attempting to make a straw man out of me for the opinion you solicited. Clap clap clap. Sorry I didn't confirm your bias.

Questionable Genius

Pornography is one the only legal methods (at least in the United States of America) for men to enjoy sex, aside from asking one to do the dirty with them. Are you seriously going to tell men who can't get laid (for whatever reason) to put down the Playboy just because you've got your panties in a twist? Pretty sad life.

How did people ever masturbate before the printing press! Obviously they all died or something if they didn't get married fast enough.

Pretty sure Ugh could figure out how to imaginate his neighbor's wife naked. Same thing, just one is readily available, new, and more engaging.

Did you only watch the first few minutes? He later explains that they were able to obtain multiple control groups.

When your opinion turns to that of proclaiming there is a feminist agenda out to make men into gentle lovers, it doesn't really make sense. If you noticed in the video, it wasn't women who were delivering, or even conducting the studies.

Are you going to actually reply to her actual statement or keep trying to make strawmen?

That doesn't actually mean anything.
The magazine "cosmopolitan" is made by women, for women. When they hire a man to write an article what men really want, he's either expressing an opinion the editors agree with, OR he's told what to write entirely. The point is, despite "hiring male authors," they're still writing not the man's perspective, but what women want the man's perspective to be. After all, women are their audience, they don't want to write anything they don't want to hear.

I didn't look into these studies. I will grant you, there are people out there who can't tell reality from fiction, but do you REALLY think that describes an entire gender?
If you believe that, then "men who watch porn" aren't the ONLY ones who can't tell what's made up.

By the way, you guys know women watch porn too, right? It's kind of sexist to make the assumption that ONLY men can be affected by porn.

I find it interesting that others use the same research by Lajeunesse to come to the opposite conclusion as the Ted Talker (including Lajeunesse himself).

Lajeunesse
"Pornography hasn't changed their perception of women or their relationship which they all want as harmonious and fulfilling as possible."

"Those who could not live out their fantasy in real life with their partner simply set aside the fantasy. The fantasy is broken in the real world and men don't want their partner to look like a porn star."

"If pornography had the impact that many claim it has, you would just have to show heterosexual films to a homosexual to change his sexual orientation."

I think the real question is: why is this study by Lajeunesse given any credence in the fist place since it only sampled 20 men? People will eat up anything labeled a study.

At what point did I imply that this describes an entire gender?
I'm not that narrow minded thankyou.

And yes I'm aware women watch porn too but it is men who endorse it more.
Where is the assumption made that only men can be affected by porn?

I did if you bothered to read the whole thing. I made a mistake in the reply and the layout went weird, I'll edit it dos you may see the answer.
I need to do no such thing.

I am capable of intercourse with my current pornography habits.

It is very good intercourse. Much pleasure involved.
