I don't get what the big deal is.
I mean, I get why gay people want to get married, I want to get married at some point, and I deffinitly want to marry someone i love and am attracted too.
and I understand why certain religions would refuse to marry them, which they have every right to do,
but I don't get how the government can say that gay people cant get married. America has a govt. for the people (a laughable thought i know) and homosexuals are people.
I'm assuming at some point it will be alright, but why are SO MANY people against it?
Most the people against it, wouldn't even be effected by it.
'It against my religion' well it's not against mine,
'it's unnatural' so are peircings, body art, and cars, but those aren't illegal.
'how do i explain it to my kids' when two people love each other they get married, duh, it's not that hard.
'it will ruin the sanctity of marriage' sorry hun, divorce already did that.
And you simply cant dictate sexual urges, i mean some poeple are into S&M which i find disturbing, but again, I don't care if your into it, i'm not, but i don't want to make any laws forbiding it.

btw i'm not gay, 3 boys i went to highschool with have since come out, and it didn't change how i thought of them, they were nice boys who were always friendly and still are. I give props to all of you who are out an proud, and hope that things will be fair for you one day.

Really, i kind of just want to know why people think it's wrong, so let me know your thoughts if you care to share emotion_yatta
Religious beliefs dictate that homosexuals aren't people, so because of this belief homosexuals aren't allowed to be married, since only real people can get married.

The irrationality of the religious beliefs is about as rational as the arguments are when people use those religious beliefs to debate against gay marriage.
I think the issue a lot of people having with allowing gay marriage is the "marriage" part. Many people view marriage as a religious institution, and the religious definition of marriage is "man and woman", so they believe allowing gay marriage will violate religious beliefs, or something like that. For example, I know someone who is against gay marriage but is not against civil union between two members of the same sex. For those who don't know, civil union is legally the same thing as marriage (same health care benefits, same legal rights, etc.). If I botched that definition, please correct me. So basically, they just want to preserve the religious definition of marriage, which is why they're against gay marriage. Does that make sense? Sometimes my thoughts don't translate to words very well.

Oh, and totally agree with all the points you made, OP.

I don't think I've seen you with a sig of a show that hasn't actually aired yet.
Which show is that? It looks interesting.
So many are against it because of a few reasons.
one of the largest is religion. Many christians think that gay marriage is a sin (despite the bible saying it's unclean, not a sin....) and make it their duty to judge, harass, and make-miserable any and all gay people they can. Because that's what Jesus would have wanted, "Harass thine enemy and make him feel lower than the dirt."

Another reason is because the media says so, and joe public dosn't like to contradict the media with independent thought.
Reasons that I have heard:

Gay behavior is religiously offensive. It breaks the sacred dictate to procreate.
While there is a separation of church and state, God influences what we should think is right and wrong.
Same sex marriages will allow gays to adopt, which will create more gays.
Allowing same sex marriages indicates an acceptance of homosexuality, which some religions refuse to do.

How I interpret this particular brand of intolerance:
I don't understand it, so it makes me feel weird and that makes me cranky.

There are whole websites dedicated to explaining this if you wanted to, you know, Google it.

I had little choice, Davos is my favourite character from the series. As soon as they released a picture of him... I am such a Seaworth fanboy.

Can you work out mine?

I was reading that they've had to write a whole load of new dialogue for him because he spends so much of the books observing and not talking.

Anyway... yours? Tyrion is too obvious, he's everyone favourite. Littlefinger maybe? I don't know there's way too many.

Oh com'on you know that I am bouncy, stubborn and self-righteous.

Tyrion is too world weary, and as much as I enjoy Littlefinger, he is too evil to be my favourite.

I wouldn't call Belwas exactly not-evil, he's kind of a blood-thirsty psychopath...

Bouncy makes me think of Tyrion with his barrel rolls, but he's too jaded...

I'm guessing Arya? She's stubborn enough and kind of self-righteous in the whole "I must kill all the evil people who destroyed my family" kind of way...

Bouncy... that word totally throws me...

I give up!

I'm guessing Arya

Well done.
