Guys, guys. We're focusing way too much on the guy's ethnic background, and not at all at the fact that this guy was a army psychologist. Should that not be a bigger warning flag?

Given Freud?

Not really.

Muslim, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan shouted "God is Great" in Arabic while opening fire at Fort Hood yesterday hitting 43 persons before being shot himself. Hasan is alive and in critical condition at a nearby community hospital under guard by both local and military police.

Now I think people are missing the point here. This guy yelled some muslim phrase, opened fire, and shot 43 people on a military base? Now, sure we should be angry, but perhaps this is a sign some of our soldiers need to go through some better basic training. It isn't like this guy opened fire in some london mall where no one has guns. This is a US military base. Either this guy was the muslim rambo, or these guys sucked a**. I could be wrong, but weren't their less casualties when the two guys in LA started shooting poorly armed police and civilians?

Put a group of completely unsuspecting, unarmed SAS members in a building, add a gunman firing both a handgun and a semi-automatic indiscriminately, and tell me what you get.

Not even the best military training will save you when, at random, someone decides to perforate you and everyone else within sight. Soldiers can't deflect bullets with their fists.

I think that the actions of one person doesn't reflect on all people in that group.

"You can feed me bread and water,
Or a great big bale of hay,
But don't take my boop-oop-a-doop away!

You can say my voice is awful,
Or my songs are too risqué,
Oh, but don't take my boop-oop-a-doop away!"

Completely unsuspecting? They are fighting a group of terrorists who use things like surprise and unpreparedness to their advantage in things like surprise shootings, bombings, and other surprise attacks on foreign soil. Perhaps these military people should be on alert at all times. I am no military strategist, but the best way to get you a** killed by a terrorist is to let your guard down and become complacent in security and preparedness. Besides, you are hanging around on a military base with a bunch of guns and other large arms. You should at least be ready to duck in case of an accident.

I could understand perhaps the first 10 victims had an excuse of being surprised, but the next 35 were pretty much lame ducks. It isn't like this guy was a combat veteran marine. They were shot by a shrink with no combat experience.

edit: O course, considering how many people he hit with his handgun, perhaps we should make this guy responsible for training the NYPD.

Also depends where these soldiers were. Like, if they were all grouped out in the open, or in a closed in area like a chapel or mess hall, that could account for the numbers.

They were all indoors waiting to get innoculations before being deployed, as I understand it.

Oh yes, they're fighting a group of terrorists on the opposite ******** side of the Pacific Ocean... and then some! Are you daft? How often do you hear about people going on shooting rampages in US military posts in the United States? Not very bloody often. This was in a readiness center, of all places, not a barracks, or a shooting range, or some sort of administrative center. These were soldiers who were expecting to be deployed in a few days. They might've been thinking about their families, or the theatre of war facing them, or maybe even how best to get out of it all. And this man who killed or wounded them was a major in uniform, someone who would be considered trustworthy.

It's not like he walked from room to room, shooting one person at a time. This was a quick attack, with a rapid rate of fire and casualties. And he came in through the best point of escape.

I could not /facepalm enough at this.

Several things: While watching the PROGRESSING reports (not the after-action), there were reports of gunshots in the surrounding apartments.

Also, it's highly likely the Ft. required everyone except the MPs to disarm. And I bet the MPs were way on the other side of the compound.

And now if only the media could make up it's ******** mind what he USED. First, it was 2-3 guys with "sniper rifles" (or UZIs according to CNN), then it was M16s, then two suspects were released and a fourth picked up, then it was 2 shooters, one dead and one using two handguns, then generic "high powered rifles", and FINALLY a single shooter with a "5.7 caliber handgun".
Just get a ******** picture, folks. The internet will identify it FOR you.

I don't know (probably not working with teh Al Qaeda they care more for their Afghanistan and such then there)

Also, have they ruled out the fact that the Psychologist might have been on some type of drug? Or had some type of disease that made him shoot people when he forgot to take a prescription? (that has happened before).

who wants to place a bet that when nobody cares about this s**t anymore they'll come out and say "Oh he was on some type of drug" OR he's just a loony (yes ladies and gentleman there are legit loonies out there)
