Welcome to Gaia! ::

They say neuroplasticity is one of the main things that differentiates man from the other animals. For example, it makes him able to think historically, while other animals don't. Some people believe in meditation and chakra, while others are materialists. Discuss: Neuroplasticity, mostly, but history and religion are also fine.

Who are "they"? Also, the definition just means "the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life".

...But that's ******** awesome.
Neuroplasticity also allows people to create television shows or a fictional oeuvre.
Neuroplasticity is not the same thing as having an unusual amount of layers of neocortex.

That's not what the definition says.

Of course not. Neuroplasticity is also not the same thing as an internal combustion engine but the definition will also not specify that because it is concerned with what is rather than what is not.

why are the only two options 'beleving in meditation and chakra' or being 'materialistic'. well I'm neither.
Other brained/neuron having creatures have neuroplasticity too. Like songbirds when they learn to sing. I love how neuroplasticity has gone the way of pop-psych (pop-neuro).

That is hardly the result of neuroplasticity on its own and more to do with the effect of neuroplasticity on a brain with a greater level of high cognitive functioning. Neuroplasticity also exists in lower animals, but the limited range of skills their brain can learn prevent them from creating television series. It is just like how regardless of how much neuroplasticity humans have they will not be able to surpass a blood hound's ability to distinguish between smells. Human brains are ill equipped for such finely tuned differentiation and sensitivity to scent.

I do not think the OP understands what neuroplasticity actually is ...

I think it's neat that the brain is very mold-able. You can bring on a change in anything you like with enough time and determination. My husband nearly turned himself gay watching gay porn because he thought he would never get a woman. He watched it so much it started to be a turn on for him. The mind is a powerful thing.

Um... more or less humans have hands and talk to each other and like to spread goodwill, kablam, 3 million years later some technology.
