I do so believe it would be the police's job to check for proper ID for street prostitution. On a related note, are you for or against, because I never say your original post and so far as I can tell, you're just pointing out flaws in the system.

Exactly.
Like in Austria, they are required to get tested on a weekly basis. Not only that but they are permitted an official card they are required to carry when doing business. If ever they test positive for STDs the card gets confiscated.

SO if you go up to a hooker, and ask to see their card you know that they are [more likely to be] clean. If not, you'll want a different prostitute.
Circumvention: Get the ID once, never retest. Unless your customer is very conscientious flashing the card is probably sufficient. It's how people used get away with driving on expired licenses.

I'm sure anyone with more then 2 braincells would check. Seeing as, ******** up could get you AIDS.

Apparently according to Mr. Anarchy it's not just the police.

Duh. It's your responsibility to check, because not checking could get you ******** over, but it'd be the police's job to make sure no one is operating without a license.

Okay, this explanation goes back a ways. A long time ago, they tried to end drinking in this country with something called prohibition. Basically, the law said that you couldn't drink when you wanted to. Know what happened? Everybody drank anyway. After about a decade of this, congress decided to make it legal again, regulate and tax it. Now, it's a money making industry, and it's safer than ever with rules to protect people and manufacturers, all of whom prosper from this. Are there people who abuse alchohol? Yes, of course, but the number hasn't really changed in spite of the law. The difference is that law enforcement is not tied up going after people who want a drink after a hard day working. Instead, they can go after real criminals, such as murderers and rapists.
What does this have to do with prostitution? It's simple, really. If you legalize, regulate, and tax it, the government would make a profit, rather than spend billions of taxpayer dollars sending police out in the street running sting operations trying to bust a person from doing what they can to make a living. Other countries across the globe have already legalized it, and generate enormous amonts of revenue from the taxes collected. Furthermore, with regulation, both the prostitute and client are afforded some protection from the law, rather than living in fear of it. Again, are their people who will abuse this if it becomes legal? Yes, but again, this is a practice that will continue whether legal or not. And yet again, we can have police doing real police work, instead of running around looking for people who, for lack of a better term, are looking for a way to " get off ".
This is just my opinion, but I think a lot of people share the same sentiments. I hope this helps. 3nodding

By which I respond that if you are fooled you won't know it. It won't get you anywhere. For all you know Marissa, the actual name of the prostitute, is Jessica to you. That's the problem: People lie and ID's can be faked to the point where a common layman may not know.

To further this point if you're using a fake ID it's not registered. All you have to do is put personals up on a website like craig'slist and voila, you don't have to stand on a corner and you can post your fake ID picture without the cops on your tail because you're not in the system.

It's just too easy to get around. This is like the myth that most homes are safe from robbers and s**t; there's even more elaborate ways to work around this system, but this simple one works even today in modern society all the time. Minors buy alcohol. It's really easy to even jump the physical hurdles now.

So, your whole defence rests on people working the system? You realize people are watching craigslist with a wary eye now more than ever? I just can't see where your coming from if your entire base is one big "if...". Also, I represent figure A where Va is now making licenses in Richmond so that they can't be falsified or replicated.

Actually that's just the quick method. There are more intricate ways around these blockades, and no it's not people working the system, it's people being dishonest because as we all know it is because of the circumventions that people are more concerned about craiglist and whatnot but AdultFriendFinder and other websites exist for the same purpose, to find sex partners, and they do not regulate any particular power over any agreements between customers.

Think of it this way: Why make a lock if it's easy to pick? This isn't based on a "big if" it's based on a "big when", We don't make laws to be broken. That's the point. The reason why VA made those licenses in the first place is to counteract circumvention, the reason why the American dollar is printed differently and that's updated all the time is because people will counterfeit money!

People lie. This isn't an if, it's a when, people steal things in downloads now and 15 year old girls are hooking up using dating sites and kids found a way to buy booze online and people have been bootlegging and performing piracy and fraud for as long as a law existed and then some.

If anything it's like hiring a professional hacker. You need someone to review and shoot holes in your constructs namely because if they can do it someone else will.

Again, your whole defence is people will work the system. I see the flaws, but you ignore your own. The fact is, people work the system always have, always will. Sure, people probably will make fake prostitution IDs if we initiate that. But the fact is, most people won't, or won't need to. It all comes down to you pointing to a percentage of cons that will never outwiegh the pros. Either way, we come to a moot point, so, shall we drop it?

Prostitution =/= selling of eggs, sperm, blood, or hair. Leasing out their womb is only allowed when consented with both parties (usually includes 4 people: 2 females and their husbands). You may not be forcing prostitution but you are supporting it.

And by not supporting legal, supervised[video cameras], health beneficial, tax paying prostitution.- You are supporting uncensored, abusive, STD spreading, prostitution.

Also, San Francisco spends 11million dollars a year controlling prostitution. Not only is it more of a health hazard when it's illegal, but it's more expensive for people who don't even use hookers.

What the hell are you talking about?? I don't support prostitution at all. It is YOU who want to legalize it. Video taping prostitution?? Sounds just like porn to me. Please clarify what you are saying. "Tax paying prostitution"... worst idea I've ever heard... you are going to have prostitutes to launder money into the government??

Lets forget about the crime for a moment, shall we- and look at the punishment.

"...many defendants go right back to offending behavior when the get out of the system."
Prostitution what happens

Fake Id's, however have been made into a felony in some states. That depends on if you are using a fake id, or a modified real ID. [This is for a minor- I couldn't find what happens to adults, we can assume it's worse]

In theory, if prostitution were legal, and a person tested positive for STDs managed to get a hold of a fake license... the individual would be facing multiple charges. Illegal prostitution, possessing a fake license, possibly public endangerment.

It would be significantly easier to hold illegal prostitutes.
