I don't like the lifestyle, but I don't think it should be an arrestable offense. Government just needs to stay the hell out of people's lives unless they're violent.

I think it should be legalized, but with some codes.
Like the prostitute should:
Have regular blood testing.
Proper fighting/ self defense skills.
ALWAYS use a condom
Only work from a hotel. No streetwalking, no business outside of that hotel.
(I would put more, but I'm feeling lazy)
Good idea. Pick them up first time, test them. Have a big computer system of all the prostitutes or something.

Bad results = Be out again and youll be arrested.

Good results = Go right ahead.

I'm against. Why? Because most of the time, prostitution and drugs go hand-in-hand. Drugs enter the picture because they take away the mental anguish of the activity of prostitution for the girl. Prostitution also tears families apart who are forced to watch these girls running around and ruining their lives. Most importantly, should those girls become pregnant, their families now have to help support this newborn who most likely is suffering from a slew of health issues if it wasn't aborted in the first place. The prostitute sure as heck wouldn't be able to care for that child alone. Birth control methods are not always in the picture, and these girls are not always mentally fit to use it all the time. Plus if drugs are involved, I doubt that any addict would rather spend it on a bottle of pills than on their drugs of choice.

Prostitution is an entirely different world, and it includes everything from drugs to body selling to murders that often go unreported because nobody wants to rat out anyone they deal with.

FOR! It protects all woman from the psychos and it protects children that might get caught up in that lifestyle. As a bonus it also cuts down on STDS for married women (or men) that are 100% faithful to their cheating mates.

How does it protect the children when they can do it anyway? How can it protect the children when the newspaper has hiring ads for brothels?

The same way you don't see little kids in US based factories or retail shops. Same deal really.

It's legal in Vegas.

But that wasn't the question. I, personally, have never had a prostitute nor ever plan to hire a prostitute. But do I think it should be legal? I don't see why not. Men are willing to pay for it, women are willing to do it. As well, women are willing to pay for it, men are willing to do it. And various other combinations. Anyways, the point is, if you're willing to sell yourself, then you should be allowed to. I mean, porn is basically the same. They're selling their body to have sex. And it's even worse 'cause it's filmed and let out to the public. So I don't see the problem with prostitution.

If anything, the government should have it's own brothels. It'll make them a hell of a lot of money. Should there be laws in place to help prevent a massive epidemic of STDs? Sure. If you're a prostitute, then you should make sure you keep yourself protected. As for the pimp situation, he should be help under certain restrictions, too. No abusing the prostitutes, a require payment for the prostitutes services, and such things like that.

If people want to subject their selves to that lifestyle, I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to. There are plenty of people who are addicted to sex and find people to have sex with, why not let them do that and get paid for it? It'd certainly help the economy. I mean, sex will always be in demand as long as humans are humans.

So, definitely for it! People are already having tons of sex, I don't see why someone can't be making a profit off of it.

You mean child labour laws? Which have nothing to do with the legal status of prostitution. Otherwise you'd be knee deep in underage hookers already.

Also, I wanted to add something about the little'uns around the U.S. These days, children are having sex at younger and younger ages -- supposedly it's the media's fault-- so it's not as if we can hide that sex is a natural occurrence any more.

And I think the media is partly to blame, but also parents and the children themselves. I mean, a study done in Texas --if you want me to find where I found this out, I can look it up for you-- 12 years olds had engaged in oral, vaginal, a**l, or even all three types of intercourse. It's a darn shame, but that's reality. 12 year olds are getting STDs....

So as for protecting the kids from things like this, the best thing you can do it educate them. I mean, I'm educated about it and when I see a prostitute --I have lived in bad parts of town-- I was never inclined to hire them for their services. Not only that, but I haven't even participated in sexual intercourse.

I really don't see any objections other than moral ones,we are after all a free nation,
I can only see It beneficial to those who provide the escorting service if the US where
to legalize prostitution.

Do I think it should be illegal? Well, no. Really, people only rely on prostitution when they have nothing else. In their position, they recognize no better or healthier choice; becoming a sex toy is a good opportunity to make a living if suffering from poverty. Instead of making it illegal, we should provide alternatives that will further benefit those who suffer, economically. Prostitution should not be enforced but I do find it inappropriate to categorize them as "sluts" and "low-lives". The generic case of a prostitute is that their life has hit the point where they become desperate to support themselves. No one wants to do that as a career. If they did, staring in pornography would be a better idea.

Not that I'm truly object with what you're saying nor saying that it's a stupid view. But, I don't really see a point as to why they shouldn't. I get where you're coming from, but take porn starts, for instance. Some are very famous, like Pamela Anderson, and are quite affluent. Even though she didn't suffer from poverty, she still had sex for money.

Also, I don't think prostitution is always a last resort. I mean, the illegal aspect does add negative connotations, thus people are inclined to not do it, naturally. But as I mentioned before, some people are addicted to sex, so I'm sure they'd love to get paid for doing it. Just like people who love to play games want a job that allows them to play a game. They don't resort to it 'cause they're broke.
