I believe there's not too much mature content children should be restricted from. Sex scenes maybe. The thing is, there's so much kids don't know that they won't even pick up on it. For example, I used to watch Card Captor Sakura. In the show a little girl dresses up in random costumes made by her best friend, who is in love with her. Her best friends mother is also in love with her. I never picked up on that, because... well, I was a kid

She's constantly going on about how cute Sakura is, making outfits, has a WHOLE VIDEO ROOM dedicated JUST for watching videos of her even while not fighting Clow Cards. She goes everywhere with her, makes her lunch, and generally crushes on her hard

The few times Sakura meets her mother, her mother basically acts the same way

I was just watching friends and it got me to thinking about when I was younger and how I'd watch it with my older brother.
then I got thinking about how mature of a show it actually is and I couldn't help but think that a lot of people's parents wouldn't have allowed them to watch the show because of this.
so I was wondering what are your opinions on what children should and shouldn't watch?
should we shield them from things like sex and violence, or should we find a way to integrate it into something like television that they'd feel comfortable with and allow them to learn from it?
I know a lot of people think that sex isn't an appropriate subject for children--if you think this then could you explain why you think so?

they think its inappropriate because they dont want their kids to grow up too fast, they want their precious children to stay children, they dont want them to get stds and babies early, they want a good future for their kids, and cuz some parents dont want gays or lesbians for kids and say sex is sinful n stuff.

But don't expect me to want that to bleed into my entertainment; if you want that, you can search that up on your own, in your own stuff.

I don't think there's much wrong with children being exposed to sexual content, especially when it's fairly tame like Friends, but there needs to be somebody there to explain it. Media intended for adults often delivers its content in a way that kids won't really understand, because it pertains to experiences they haven't yet had. If there's nobody there to add context to the content the child is exposed to they might form a skewed opinion of it.
