I believe there's not too much mature content children should be restricted from. Sex scenes maybe. The thing is, there's so much kids don't know that they won't even pick up on it. For example, I used to watch Card Captor Sakura. In the show a little girl dresses up in random costumes made by her best friend, who is in love with her. Her best friends mother is also in love with her. I never picked up on that, because... well, I was a kid
why should sex scenes "maybe" be restricted, though?

Because kids have a tendency to copy what they see on TV if what they see doesn't appear to be harmful or inappropriate.
that is a complete urban myth and complete bs
I watched ed, edd and eddy when I was younger and I didn't start scamming people
I watched south park when I was younger (as did a lot of the people I know) and we didn't go around flipping people off or spewing cuss words

I'm not saying that parents shouldn't have any part in their kids learning things like this, but I do believe that it makes the learning process a lot more comfortable for both the child and the parent if they see it on the television and then the adult simply explains what the child was watching to them.

and for the record, I find the fact that most people are more comfortable with children watching violence than sex incredibly disturbing

Cartoon violence is different, though.

A person that punches someone in self defense (presumably not killing them, an even better than real life lesson) can be seen as admirable while gratuitous amount of porny sex really has no value or life lesson for a child.
porny sex? hold up; we were talking about television, if you didn't catch on to that. the only sex scenes that are on television are in tv shows which, almost 100% of the time, have a story which is more often than not of a romantic nature.
children have to learn about romance and how relationships generally work at some point just as they've got to learn about violence at some point.
your argument is completely invalid since it would show a life lesson.

Sex isn't a life lesson.

Romance stuff is often delved into but not sex, there's really no need for that. xp

unless your partner is asexual and you're truly in love with them enough to give up sex, there is going to be sex
you're just denying it now because my point made sense and you didn't like that it made sense

There's no point to show the sex.

It's unnecessary obscenity.

To clarify sex does not look much like that most of the time.

Not really. Children's pyschees are easily suggestible and affectable, to expose them to obscene crap for no reason can be a problem.

Children who've witnessed violence often go on to commit violence themselves, and children who've been abused often go on to be abusers themselves

The fact of the matter is, why it's just a movie, violence can effect a children's mind worse than an adult, and an adult who witnesses lots of realistic violence may become desensitized to it themselves anyways, so witnessing large volumes of obscene stuff is not a good idea.

Since Cartoon violence is clearly fake, and stupid, it's somewhat more acceptable, but if all they watched was cartoon violence it would not be very nice; such as, didn't get Bug's bunnies other jokes etc.

If it's not gross your fanfiction is simply not smutty enough. Also your list contains an omission to suggest that you have no first hand experience, this could present a stumbling block.

it's not for no reason; it's to show them that that's what happens in the real world--it's better for them to see it so they can understand it properly rather than have it awkwardly explained to them by their parents after they've already known about it for years or have it even more awkwardly explained by a teacher that really doesn't want to take part in explaining it.
sex is a part of nature and a huge part of our society's culture, it's not something that should be restricted.

Quote:

...are you saying that there's a problem with children having sex when they've grown up? because that really doesn't make any sense at all.
notice how the people that you're talking about go on to do those things later in their lives.
and people have sex in their teens and as an adult really isn't a problem.

Quote:

there is that word again; obscene
sex and violence, as I said before, are both going to happen at some point in most people's lives, so it's best that they learn about it when they're young in a way that they feel comfortable with.

Quote:

what about non-cartoon violence in children's shows/movies?
like, for example, power rangers.
should children not be able to watch that any more?

and I don't know where you got the "all they watched" part since no one ever said anything about that before--you just pulled that out of thin air
