Yes, a topic about immigration has been made. I felt that this belongs in ED because this is a debate that seriously questions the reasons why our great government made and passed these super strict immigration laws. There should be no personal attacks made and no misrepresentation of opposing points, since I expect EDers to be above such fallicious tactics. I would very much like to revisit this thread several times and instead find clean and open debating. I conclude that to do so, I must refrain from posting my own personal biases regarding the issue. Also, please don't simply parrot another user; use your own wording and voice some of your own questions regarding this admittedly complex topic.

i live in an area full of illegal citizens. i have no issue with them other than they don't pay taxes. i think the laws are good because america has been catering to illegal citizens for so long and our country is losing a ton of money by doing it. also its great that america is "the land of opportunity" but its been getting more and more difficult for legal citizens to find work because its more cost effective for companies to pay under the table and the only ones guaranteed not to blab about it are illegal.my step family is peruvian and it isnt fair for someone to do the requirements to become a citizen and work so hard to legally stay in our country when the people who are breaking our laws by just hoppin the fence are able to make more money by not paying taxes and cant and in front of 711 to find work while the legal people must prove citizenship to get a job and even then they are still under suspicion

I actually agree with you. I think we should be able to actually afford to pay higher wages for legal American workers. It's a funny video, though, and in this day in age everyone should have a youtube account. Lighten up, playa.

It is ridiculous because this view is usually predicated off of ignorance.

I'd say the economic costs (in terms of hospital bills and lost taxes), the fact that they're knowingly breaking the law rather than waiting in line, and the sharp social costs that come with it are all good reasons to stop illegal immigration. If people want to immigrate, they can use the proper channels to get in.

I don't care if they get to use my tax money at the hospital, these things are for the welfare of the people. I also don't agree with the idea of criminalizing the people who are wanting to come here. It needs to be very easy for them to become citizens. We have room for growth, especially in the Mid-west. Having more people that are citizens paying taxes, and spending the money here would boost the economy in of itself.
