Lesson in how to argue based on logic for the atheists who seem to love trying and failing:
Haku Tobi II

Atheists believe in SCIENCE and nothing else.

Science is not a matter of belief, it is a matter of fact and observable evidence. Let's take a look at this from what assumptions atheists and theists make:

Atheist:
-The universe exists
-We can learn something about it <- logic takes over here.

Theist:
-The universe exists
-We can learn something about it
-Some form of higher power exists either within or outside the universe (depending seemingly on who you ask and what you ask them)
-We can learn something about this higher power
(if following a theistic organized religion) -We can only learn about this higher power from centuries-old books written by men, not through observable evidence
You don't know the definition of atheism and theism.
In addition: theism =/= religion, silly wabbit.

You'll note, upon actually reading the post, that he wasn't defining the meanings of atheism and theism. He was defining, to quote, "the assumptions atheists and theists make" - i.e., the logical roots of their arguments and thought processes.

Additionally - nowhere was the claim made that theism = religion. If one follows an organized religion, which is by nature inherently theistic, one will almost certainly exhibit the fourth attitude under the 'theism' bar, but if one is not a member of an organized religion, one very often does not - this is clearly distinguished.

My bad.

Please make the last sentence more lucid.

Er... okay. Let's see... theism obviously is not religion. Religions, however, are almost always theistic. A member of an organized religion will often exhibit the attitude that 'We can only learn about this higher power from centuries-old books written by men, not through observable evidence,' but a general theistic man with no such organized religion to call his own likely won't share this attitude. The whole 'centuries-old holy book written by men' thing is more or less uniquely religious.

Omg I thought I was the only one who noticed this.
I blame the effect that abrupt changes have on people. It´s mostly young people that just recently came in contact with this whole controversy who act like this. Ironically they act exactly the same as people who converted to another religion. They don´t quite understand what it´s really all about and so they kind of create a strawman version of their new belief and defend it like furious.
I hope all this settles down in a few years.

I agree with you. It seems like the new "trendy" thing is to be athiest and thusly you have alot of people who don't know much about it clamoring to be known as staunch atheists.

I am agnostic, there might be a religion out there for me and i am studying them so i know what i'm getting into rather tahn just being brought up something and not knowing anything else. I do pity those people who dont know what theyre talking about on both sides, blind faith and blind rebellion, know what you're talking about before you talk about it. Thats my philosophy in life.

I hope that people will someday decide that quoting comedians isn't a good way to add to a conversation.
