It's true that her first novel was badly written, and I gues you can excuse her for that, but what's to excuse the second, and the third, and the fourth...

Another reason I don't like twilight is that it takes these girls who absolutely hated reading, and turn them into people who all of the sudden "love" to read because it's popular now.

Everything about twilight ends up for the wrong reasons. rolleyes

VERY VERY FRUSTRATING

I personally think twilight-hatards are hillarious in a most pathetic way. lol

I read all the books, but I didn't like them.

However, I hate how there are people who think that people who read Twilight and like it are people who have never read a single book for fun before in their lives. I mean, WTF? neutral My friends sorta like Twilight, but it's not the only book they've read. Like me, they love to read, and have read more than 300 books in the past.

And btw, YES Jacob is a *****. Imprinting on an INFANT is NOT okay. And 'oooh Jacob didn't have a choice' yeah, Meyer could've written it differently but she wanted everyone to have a (sick) happy ending. So basically, he IS thinking of her 'like that.' Renesmee or whatever is a lil' freaky infant who, although scary, has already been chosen by a TEENAGER to one day have sex with him and be his mate. Yeah. So romantic. So ... 'soulmate'-ish.
I feel awful for him--I write. I feel awful that Meyer would write a character with such potential but nobody can be 'as good as Edward' so she had to make him imprint on a freaking infant and destroy his character and all that. He WAS pretty cool. Really. It's gross. Think about it, people. It would be like me seeing a lil' baby boy and being FORCED by, say, 'God' to suddenly be obsessed with him and love him soooooooo much because one day, he'll be my husband/mate/lover.
Wrong much? Yeah.

Okay. I'm done, I promise. As long as I forget 'bout this thread.

Well, Quil, Jacob's friend, was the same--he imprinted on a damn 3-year old kid (I think it was Emily's daughter). He's no better than Jacob, yet I find it strange that people focus only on Jacob being a ***** and not both of them.

Yes another Twilight thread sweatdrop

Pretty much for the past year all I've seen and heard is all this talk about how Twilight is trash
and how it puts vampires to shame and all this "sparkly f*****t" nonsense.
I suppose as long as it's popular people won't agree but
Aren't we going overboard?

No, the Twitards are going overboard. Thats the problem. Some even use violence against those who don't even agree that Twilight is the best book ever.

Quote:
If you didn't even read the book you shouldn't be able to say it's poorly written. It was Meyer's first novel, give her a break.

Meyer wrote four books and they're all ******** up.
Meyer is getting rich off of her inadequate books that promotes abusive relationships, shallowness, sexism, and poor taste in "literature". Writting your first book doesn't cop you out of criticism, especially with her arrogant attitude and how illiterate people say she is better than King and Shakespeare.

Quote:
There are most likely people out there who don't get into many books
so maybe Twilight was the best book they've personally ever read
and just because someone has read a better quantity doesn't mean they should think themselves higher than
the person who has only read a few books and liked Twilight the best.

A person should think themselves higher than an illiterate conformist teenybopper.

Quote:
As long as kids are actually reading I can deal with the superfan crap.

******** that. Meyer is putting filthy ideas into the minds of these kids.

Dude the movie destroyed the book. I hate the posers who read the book after seeing the movie they need to be hanged/ scream

The movie improved the book, we didn't have to listen to SMella's bitching and goggling over Edward's balls. It was also shorter so a person didn't have to suffer from fried brain cells for too long.

If I was to take the Dark Tower series from King and run the same fined tooth comb over it, I could tare thouse books apart as well.

I love those book and I'm not a fan Twilight , but damn people. Its a fad, and half the crap I hear about Twilight fans being as fanaticaly violent and obsessive comes from places and people that already have fanatical hatred towards a young adults book that isn't being forced upon them.

I ride alone forrever free. Music soothes me, forever within me.
I do think it's a little funny when people talk trash about how they glitter, or don't have fangs.

From my very limited vampire reading expirence, no vampire story is the same. They all have little quirks to the base legend. So it's not like Stephanie Meyer trashed the vampire rep. by adding her own stuff, she just failed horribly at writing it. It's the most epic Mary Sue I've ever seen, and little 12 year old girls eat that s**t up.

All in all, the book is meant for preteens. Not for all the older kids. So bashing is expected from everyone 14 and older.

Help? :3

Oh hey
I read all of your comments
and was kind of disappointed at the people needlessly attacking me and such.
I wasn't defending the book
I just think that people need to stop looking into it so much
why don't you try cross-examining a better book
and excuse this little pre-teen romance story for what it is?

I'm sorry if I sounded like I was attacking. I was just explaining. Dx

Actually, the first book was written for adults. I read an interview where Meyer said she was surprised it caught on with the YA crowd so well.

Some people are just worried about the message this series sends: basically, "it's okay if he says he loves you" no matter what he does. At least, that's the way it is for me. It takes many of the classic signs of an abusive relationship (especially that Edward threatens suicide!! Augh) and glorifies them. Those are not the kind of ideas we should be giving preteens.
neutral

Usually I facepalm when books get this kind of backlash. Like when Harry Potter was banned in some libraries because the parents were worried about OMGMAGICANDSATANISM! Or my favorite children's book ever, Matilda, was banned because Matilda's parents mistreat her, AND she disobeys them. Those are stupid reasons. I wouldn't ban Twilight, because I don't believe in banning books, but I still think it's an unhealthy thing to put into the hands of people who are mostly just starting to explore the idea of what love is and what a relationship should be. People can tell the difference between reality and fantasy when it comes to magic and violence and all that. But love and sex... Twilight is just another of the many mixed messages, and it's not a good one.

I was also in a relationship once with someone who was obsessive and a little controlling. It WASN'T romantic and I was honestly scared about trying to break up with him because I didn't know what he would do.

THAT'S why I've spent a fair amount of time bashing it whenever it comes up in conversation. xD; Something is reeeeeeally wrong with the "romance" in Twilight, IMO.

I know some of the "antis" are just as insane as some of the fans. I'm trying to be a sane anti here. xD

Edward Cullen is to vampires what Barney is to dinosaurs.
