Pretty much for the past year all I've seen and heard is all this talk about how Twilight is trash
and how it puts vampires to shame and all this "sparkly f*****t" nonsense.
I suppose as long as it's popular people won't agree but

If you didn't even read the book you shouldn't be able to say it's poorly written
It was Meyer's first novel, give her a break.
I didn't think the book was extremely horrible
but it wasn't the best either.
But that's only my opinion.
There are most likely people out there who don't get into many books
so maybe Twilight was the best book they've personally ever read
and just because someone has read a better quantity doesn't mean they should think themselves higher than
the person who has only read a few books and liked Twilight the best.

As long as kids are actually reading I can deal with the superfan crap.

Most of us who talk trash about the book have read it, or at least enough of it to know that it is trash. Of course you shouldn't knock something until you try it. I tasted the Twilight cake and it was nasty. D:

Sure, there's the whole "at least kids are reading" aspect of it, but Captain Underpants probably has more literary value. I personally really dislike the way the book idealizes such a twisted relationship. And we must take into consideration that some of these kids that are reading it are aspiring writers and such. Wouldn't it be better to expose them to good literature? Twilight is being presented to them right now as what's "good," and you seem to admit that the book isn't extremely well-written.

Imagine if someone had never eaten cake before. Would you want to give them a Twinkie, or a really nice cake from the bakery? Furthermore, why do I always end up making cake analogies when talking about Twilight?

The ONLY benefit I can really see is that people who aren't into reading might read Twilight and then move on to read better literature, and hopefully, look back on Twilight someday with mixed feelings of affection and shame. xD

I read the books and watched the movie
they were terrible. Especially the second book.
The base story was good, but it wasn't developed well at all.

It doesn't exactly matter if kids are reading or not. It's the content that they are reading. These books are teaching children that it's OK not to brush up on your writing skills, seeing as the author lacks many of them. As I said in the GD, the concept is decent, but I believe the story would have been better if it was written by someone with talent of captivating the reader as well as showing them how to be a good writer. If reading is how children learn, then shouldn't our society show them how to write properly? Honestly, it's like throwing a book called "Being a Nazi is Fun" at children, and expecting them not to take something from it. A child's mind is susceptible to anything thrown at them from a young age. Should we really allow children to believe that they can become millionaires off of a fluke instead of hard work?

I did see his comments on Twilight, and I was very pleased to see an author that had the guts to just tell it like it is. I still haven't read any of Stephen King's work, which is apparently a capital crime. xD It's library time.

People are accusing him of being "jealous," which makes me laugh. What does such an incredibly successful author (far ahead of Ms. Meyer, by the way) have to be jealous of?

I read the books, and saw the movie and I think the movie was terrible. I love the books though.

@ anyone who thinks that only someone who hasn't been exposed to good literature can like Twilight:
I've read more good literature than anyone I know. I love books. I love to read. I love the classics, and I love Twilight too. It's not about what else I've read, it's about what I like. It's personal opinion.

Well other than the fact that it promotes a relationship that even seventeen magazine (sister reads it and told me about it) condones as something that is bad in real life, and the fact that half the people on myspace change their profile names to put "Cullen" in it, I see no reason why it is so bad or annoying. rolleyes

(I think Stephenie Meyer spent what, three months writing Twilight? I read it somewhere. I've been working on the plotline for my webcomic longer than that.)

I guess it's just so alien to me, the way the fans act. Even when I was younger, when someone said something I liked sucked, I just sort of moved on and didn't care, because there was nothing I could do to change their opinion. Really, the only reason I spend as much time as I do cracking jokes about Twilight is because the fans are so obnoxious, and they're everywhere. I might as well enjoy myself. But when the fad dies, I will celebrate and dance on its grave momentarily. Probably while reading some actually good literature.
