Here's a little something for you. Imagine that you died one day (not believing in the animalheaded gods) and you found yourself in front of them. A man with the head of a jackal stands by your side and your beating heart lies in front of you on a scale and is weight against the most beauitiful feather you have ever seen.

Your heart drips with blood, beating faster and faster. Not surprisingly, the scale say that your heart is heavier than the light feather. A beautiful woman put the feather in her hair and pick up your beating heart as well. She gives you your heart back and ask you if you have the book. "What book?" you ask. The man with the head of a jackal speak for the first time and say "he came here without one." "That's to bad" the beautiful woman reply and you hear a snarl behind you. You quickly turn around and a pair of great jaws meets you and close on you. It rips you apart, limb by limb. You scream, but no one will come to your rescue. They just stand there. Why are they just standing there? It hurts. It hurts so bad.

Wouldn't it be easy to write yourself a book of the dead and believe in the animalheaded gods? Pray to them, worship them and go to the temples. Think of the consequence if you don't. Ammut is longing for people like you.

The very idea of heaven and hell as described in modern theology is pretty damned silly if you ask me, and I believe in god. The thing I love about life the most is being human, and if you go to heaven, it seems you are stripped of any shred of humanity. No familial ties, an eternity of servitude and worship, no sex... and if you go to hell... as it is described by most modern theologians... which is an Idea which was thought of by the medieval Italian equivalent of Perez Hilton... you get to keep your humanity, but are unable to enjoy it because you're forever writhing in pain.

I would likely react very, very angrily. I'm a good person and that simply the fact that some clearly narcissistic entity was only letting me into a place for good people if I was willing to be brainwashed in life would strike me as hideously unfair.

And no, it wouldn't be easier to me. My friend had her graduation recently from a Catholic h.s., so I had to attend a mass. I used to go to mass when I was younger and loved it; now it struck me as pretty frightening and made me very uncomfortable. I would rather go to Hell than spend the rest of my life mindlessly chanting about how much I loved my God and stupidly allowing more and more fantastical claims to be shoved down my throat. To me, Christianity is "let's take your theism and push it to its farthest boundaries. How much can we say is true before you finally start to question what we're telling you?" I was a non-Christian theist long before I became an atheist; I renounced my Christian identity long before I renounced the idea of a god.

Look, lots of Christians claim that their god is a "loving" god, but I'm not going to spend my life worshipping something I don't even know exists on the off-chance that he'll be a narcissistic b*****d and send me to hell if I don't. End of story.

Yeah, small problem with your comparison there: I know the teacher exists. If a teacher were to give me an assignment, told me how to complete it, and I still didn't and got an 'F', I wouldn't have anyone to be mad at but myself.

Actually, your belief in what hell is is entirely wrong, even under the christian dogma. You see, the garden of eden where paradise is is a very small place which sdoes not include many things. paradise would be very limited. Since everything outside of that paradise is hell then hell is a much more vast place. We also know that knowledge expels you from paradise so you need to embrace ignorance to make it there. Not my rules, those would be the rules god has set up. So, anyplace where you are knowledgable of things that cause pain would be hell. Of course, that is a big area. Eden is gods little playpen for his ignorant sheeple.

It is true that in some places in "hell" maggots might have a better time, it is not true of all places. In a way your peeps in the church did not lie to you because there are no guarantees of happiness in hell. However, happiness is not expressly forbidden in hell, and when we look at the fact that happiness is relative you find tyhat in hell you are completely capable of knowing happiness and pain. Whereas in eden all you would know is bliss and this means that eventually bliss would become neutral relative to your everyday state. So, bliss cannot be maintained without pain in order to understand it, and eden is just a perpetual vegitative state where you know nothing and even your bliss is meaningless because you have it every day.

Sorry, but no. The church is full of such slimy scumbags and I am way too awesome a person to associate myself with the likes of child molesting preachers, political vatican liars, people from the westboro baptist church, and the hateful self rightous assholes and gosips who frequest church. Frankly, a true torturous hell would be to be stuck with the likes of christians for eternity, or for 5 minutes listenbing to some preacher tell me how i will go to hell because I ate a ham sandwich on monday, and then tell me how god is truly loving of all people.
