Welcome to Gaia! ::

If we prayed, read the bible, went to church, and didn't believe we would still end up in hell.
So, we're screwed either way by your reasoning.

What if you died today (not believeing in god) and god sent you to hell , how would you react (keep in mind that hell is a place where maggots are treated better than humans) ???

and another question

Wouldnt it be easier to pray, read the bible, and go to church (which doesnt take
that much time) , rather than spend an eternity in hell ???

Some people think that hell is not a bad place to be but until you go there you will never know

If God sent me to hell today, I would probably just sit there and take the fact that it is what it is. Would I be terrified, of course. However, what can I do when it is clear that I had been wrong. Would I yell " F#$k You!!!", no. I don't see how that would help my circumstances. I would ask God to answer three of my questions however.

Is it easier to pray, read the bible, than spend an eternity in hell. No. You see faith in God requires genuine belief. If I do those things but still don't believe, that makes me no more a believer than a cross-dressing man a woman. I would rather come to God through genuine belief than say to 'pretend' that I believe.

I'd tell god that hed suck because I was about to be tortured infintly for a finite amount of mistakes.

#2 It isn't about the ease its about the principle of the thing.

Hmm? What? Oh, sorry, but I may have my own beliefs! Atheist is literally "one without a god", so since my belief system doesn't contain a god, I'm subject to the whims of YOURS? Screw that, man. I tried Christianity for a while.

I've tried (and am going to examine) a lot of religions. I've been a Protestant, I've looked into Baha'i, and I've got most of the others on a waiting list. Not so that I can join them, but so tht I can use them to enhance the religious identity I've developed for myself.

I couldn't take their religions, so I made up my own. For me. And if your god still holds authority there, then I've made a serious mistake. However, even if that's true, and you're right, Then I'll march into Hell with my head held high in defiance of all the evil unholy s**t that the Christian god stands for.
Okay so what is hell is it like an eternity of servitude because I mean let me put this to you How the crap are they going to make me do anything because I mean they can't possibly make my life any worse.
Doomed Lucid

Hell is nothing. Throughout the entire Bible, they never describe what Hell is, why its bad, or anything of the sort. Except Lucifer resides there.

And the 'lake of fire,' and 'eternal damnation' things didn't pop up until 200 A.D. or so...

Christians need to learn what Jesus actually said.
There goes the rest of humanity.. (about 4 billion non Christians)
I'd be more inclined to assume I wasn't dead, but just having a nightmare.
Well I respect religion to the maximum.

But If I got to hell then I go to hell.

If not I don't.

I wouldn't ever know until I died.

Plus god condemns too many of my actions.

And I don't believe relying on someone to protect me after life.

After life it's over nothing to look forward too.
How would you feel if you died today and found yourself before the Chinavat bridge, which because of your sins, you find too thin to cross, and the Persian demon Vizaresh drags you down into the Druja Demana, the house of lies? Aren't you worried about that!?

I'm not.

It's called living life, like there is no tomorrow.

I make the best of things.

Please, inform me where in the quotes by Jesus in the Synoptic Gospels (as even your own scholars accept that James was written by a source a minimum of 100 years after the death of Jesus and was not written with any knowledge of the Jewish customs which your lord and savior practiced) that Hell is described.

Once you have failed to do that, I request you read the mythology of the Zoro-Astrians and realize that the beliefs you hold were not those of your false messiah, but rather those of the Farsi who lived to the east of him.

Once you've done that, have fun reading up on the roman worship of Mithras (Christmas, from whence Jesus' birthday was also stolen) as well as the ancient German Goddess Eostra (who's festival of Easter was a celebration of fertility with flowers, eggs, and rabbits)

1. I would react by saying, "Well it appears you are real. Sorry for my many failed attempts at religiousness."
2. No praying, reading the bible, and going to church would not be easier. I'm not religious because religion has not worked for me in the past. I'm not compatible with religion.

But this is all assuming that God is real. What about if the Egyptians were right? What if you have to go face Thoth? Or the Greeks? Romans? Hindu? Or what if the end is just that the END?

I'm not going to worry about what happens after I die. I'm going to just worry about what happens beforehand.

Win.

Ain't no better way to illustrate why Pascal's Wager fails.

as other people have said, the bible doesn't say what hell is like. But if I did go to hell, i would go with pride because I have no shame in enjoying life.

even if i did believe in God, i still think the church is wrong in enough ways that I wouldn't want to go, so i wouldn't go to church. But I find the easiest thing to do is to do what makes you happy.
