As we’ve moved away from a labor based economy to a service based economy, social norms have begun to replace market norms.
As a service based employee, my response is "not really." Companies are trying to
utilize "social norms" to get more value for what they pay; after all, if you take pride in your work, you work harder, and have higher morale.
The reason they're doing this is solely for the profit, and it doesn't work on anyone with a functional bullshit detector.

Eventually social norms can overtake market norms, a social support infrastructure will be put into place, and we’ll have abolished money, developed warp drives, met alien species, and find ourselves cruising among the stars!
I doubt it. People are too attached to the idea of having lots of money; the security, the power, etc. Even those who are poor will refuse to abolish money, simply for the DESIRE to become rich; it's how the communists were stopped.
