[ Oh well, adventists are nuts anyway.
Hey, one of my very good friends is a 7th Day Adventist. Watch yer tone.

So what? I think I'd know something about them since I had the unfortunate experience of being one (in a way) for three years because of my dad. My friends are also SDA and I still think the lot of them are nuts.
If such restrictions on them lead them closer to God, who are you to question them?
it's their actions we question. Trust me, such dumassed restrictions won't lead you any closer to god. I used to be a Christian, and restrictions tore me away from the faith, and from the church. I'm happier as an atheist.
I realized, as a Christian, I was wrong. believe me, such restrictions make you look crazy.

I've gotta say, the ban on dancing, reading secular novels, listening to secular music, or watching secular theatre that the SDA has... As well as following the kosher laws...

Don't think I like that much.

I don't know about the dancing thing or any of that stuff. We watched Cat-Woman one time in the church. Though I did hear of some church schools that banned dancing and rock music. Hear about that one kid that was expelled because he went to his girlfriends prom at a different school?

I thought that was a Mormon school... was it SDAs?

I think it was Mormon. I'm just saying that I thought it was the mormons that thought dancing and rock was a sin.

Listening to Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne doesn't make me any more or less of a believer than someone who goes to church every Sunday and listens to gospel. If you really need to restrict yourself of the norm to get closer to God then I'd say you're pretty weak in faith.

So you don't think that guys mother forcing him to break up with his friend was wrong?
I think that's a very loaded question, and completely irrelevant to my point.

Hey, Temba, in all seriousness, ******** off. You don't even know me, or my friend, yet make several incorrect generalisations about me and them.

Hey, you're queer, and being a douche. Hey guys, let's say all queer people are douches.

So are you saying that only your understanding of God is correct? That what works for you must be universally true? That other people may have different needs, qualities, beliefs, etc. from you matters nothing to you?

That's fair, but that doesn't make them wrong to restrict themselves, does it? Since you both are equally believing, why can't they have their restrictions, and you your non-restrictions?

Just so we're clear here:

I'm not here to say that SDA's are immune to assholery. I'm not here to argue that SDAism is the only path to God.

I'm here disputing some generalising remarks made by Isaac regarding SDA's general sanity, and some further remarks made by Temba regarding the validity of their approach to Christianity.

I am NOT SDA. I'm an Eclectic Christian Heretic, however I have dear friends of many different denominations, including Mormons, Catholics, and SDA's, all of whom not only accept my queer identity, but embrace and celebrate it. So to all of you who would spit upon them for how they find their Kingdom of Heaven, I call you hypocrite and/or bigot. If you think that a difference in practice authorizes you to make dismissive generalisations, you really missed the message Jesus hoped to spread.

But Paul does speak about those that are weak in faith and how it's okay for them to need restrictions and those strong in faith should allow and assist them in their restrictions. However what is a help to ones faith may be a stubmling block to someone else. This is why we have to be careful...

umm...

I have a fever right now so If I'm just spouting nonsense let me know in a few days my brain is saying one thing and then going *Whew it's hot* and then I just get dizzy and forget what I was saying.

ummm....

blah blah blah faith good for some... bad for other... we have to mind our own business. Judge not, love....

nurrr.
whew my brain is really super fried.

While I personally disagree with the indoctrination of the bans they have, as opposed to allowing those that wish it to go into a social seclusion (like monks and nuns), particularly because it tends to suggest that the things they ban are sinful as opposed to just distracting (which is wrong), I am okay with them strongly suggesting people avoid such things as to not be a stumbling block for their brother, as Paul said and Ty mentioned.

For one that WAS relevant.
For two: a. It was uncalled for telling Temba to "******** off"
and b. We weren't making generalisations about you OR your friend.

You aren't proving ANYTHING on your side. All I said from MY POINT OF VIEW was that SDAs were crazy. I believe YOU are the hypocrite for over-reacting and shoving our opinions down our throat. I don't give a crap if they have their "oh I can't watch TV on Friday night" belief as long as they don't make me bow to their belief system WHICH THEY HAVE (or at least attempted to. Thank God I turned 18 and was allowed to make a choice which crazy religion to follow)

Can we, y'know... calm down and not argue? I had some people think Baptists are crazy, and many people think Christians are idiots. Heck, one of my two majors, Philosophy, believes that almost as a tenet.

Personally, I learn to think "Ho hum, how silly." ninja

There was no argument until Gho started cussing out Temba unnecessarily.
