It's okay, I used to be very bad for it too... until I had the sharp realization that they just want attention and I just get migraines dealing with them. Sort of ruins any enjoyment i get out of Gaia.

I'd have let it slide as an honest question if she hasn't proceeded to spam the hell out of us without so much as waiting for or reading the one response she got off the bat. Which happened with in the same minute of her post.

Anyway, in order to be on-topic.
There was one thing that stood out to me in the first post... the use of the Gensis stories. I say stories because to my understanding at least... the creation story is held as actually being two seperate stories written approximately 500 years apart.

I found following putting the two of them together as Loki has rather ... hard to follow. Perhaps I'll have to make a time line of the days. The gist of what I got was that Adam and his helper are made first then the animals... the the "he made them in his image" man and woman peoples he made in the NEWER document, whcih appears first in the way the Bible was arranged are there fore the Other peoples of the world whom Cain feared to go out amidst?

I think that was how I followed it.
Curiosity presses me to discuss this via email with my Religion professor... it makes it as if 500 years after the Adam story was already floating around they needed to explain those other people aay and so the Priestly Document was added to the tale and editing messed around with the order to put the more general sweeping story first in print.

First thing we’re going to do is tell you exactly what Popular Christianity makes people think hell is.

To PC, hell is a fiery little place of eternal torment immediately arrived at after death if you’re not saved. It’s ruled over by Satan, and has tons of demons in it.

That sound right? Well, it’s wrong. The word hell was stolen from the Norse Hel. In Norse Mythos, Hel was the goddess of the underworld of torment, a place of eternal frozen over-ness, known as Hel or Helheim.

I got that you don't believe that hell is...um...a place of fire? Honestly, I really am curious now, I just don't understand what it was you were trying to prove exactly; other than hell is a mistranslation of some kind? sweatdrop

I'm known to err from time to time, but I suspect Loki brought Hel up, in particular, in order to outline the source of the name we apply to Hell. Since that section goes on to discus where more of the "fillings" of PC "Hell" hail from, as well, he may have been seeking to be thorough regarding all the inspirations that lead the the conglomorate current idea of the unpleasant place.

And once again, seriously agreed with homosexuality not being a sin. I saw a lot of posts in here about most Christians not being against it, but obviously these people don't live where I do. I go to a Christian private school, I've been to church, youth group, camps, completely surounded by Christians mosly my whole life. I can tell you how sick I get of people constantly bashing it, hating it, and preaching against it with no real proof. It's been taught as a sin my whole life, but Christians I've met can never find many reasons...My point being, this thread is amazingly just what Christians need to be hearing.

There are a lot of programs that believe in "converting" gays to being straight, but I really and terribly disagree with those places...we should be accepting people honestly, not trying to change the very being of who they are.

Anyways, sorry for the ramble, and thanks lots to all. ^^;

First off: I love your threads. I love how you challenge the truth with facts and beliefs and love the way you argue. It's damn brilliant. ^^

Next though, I just wanted to ask what exactly this section was trying to prove? Honestly, I'm not challenging it or trying to be rude. The section you quoted is to show that the word Hell is stolen, as are some of the ideas behind it. Really, it's only to show that Satan doesn't actually rule over it, and to help correct people's thoughts on the afterlife. Eventually, I'm going to update it by making an entire treatise on the afterlife in general, covering the possibilities of purgatory, limbo, etcetera.

all righty people, christians jews, muslems (sp sorry), and almost all other religions are exactly the same thing in different words I'll say this even satanism is the same as christianity. Its true I was one for a bit and relized that damn man its all the same really who cares. Next gay, that's theyre choice to do what hey want. Next Hell, who can say what hell is, its different in all the religions but still the same. I don't see how in any faith which says there was a creator who loves his children but condems them to hell would be correct. If the creator made the children the way they are why would they be punished for what they do if he obviously is the one making them do that? I can understand buddhism, but I think that it is a little to rediculous in its belief of harming living things. The only thing that all religions have in commen that really pisses me off though is they all have people who walk up to people like me who don't really care and say join our faith your you die and go to hell. I don't care I don't believe what you say and you are not going to change me. That's the only problem with any thing is trying to get people to come to they're side.
