Welcome to Gaia! ::

You know what? I'm actually getting very, very tired of these threads. Not that you aren't allowed to voice your opinion, but I plan on voicing mine.

I'm homosexual, yes. I have a life partner and we're VERY happy together. Yes, we get a lot of odd looks and whispers behind our backs. Do we care? No. If a Christian wants to believe that I'm going to Hell for simply loving someone, that's their opinion. I'm fine with that. I have the right to think they're ignorant.

However, I choose not to force my beliefs on other people. I'm not being put in jail or slaughtered for my sexual preference. If someone doesn't want to like me because of who I sleep with that's their decision. They can think what they want.

I'm just sick of the fighting really. It's man's nature to argue over things like this though. Many of the Christians have the best intentions when they say "You're going to hell for that! Please reconsider!"

They're just worried for the persons soul. Others that are just thinking they're above everyone else, well they'll be judged in the end. So it doesn't really matter now, does it?

That's all well and good if the Scriptures actually condemned homosexuality.

We're really doing this more for the Christians then we are the homosexuals.

Blasphemy is a serious offense, and protecting Christians from committing it is rather important. Plus a great many people leave Christianity because they think Christianity is opposed to homosexuality, even though the religion is well suited to them as a path otherwise.

I seek to aid those people too, so they keep to their Suited Path and don't fall off it due to ignorance.

*shrug*

Like I said, it matters for different reasons then you think.

I have thought that for a long time. Nowhere in the bible does it say that being gay is wrong unless it was an act of adultery. Most people don't even think about looking at the 10 comandments or the 7 deadly sins. None of these say anything about being gay or homosexual.

None of the stories where homosexuality was marked as wrong did it say that it was about love, it was all about adultery.

People need to just be people and get their heads out of other peoples asses and let them live their own life.

Note: The 7 Deadly sins are not Biblical in context. 3nodding

That be all.

I didn't say it was heart
I just want to point out one thing, but first, I am truely amazed at the amount of thought and research you did for this, I know I definately don't have that kind of commitment to anything, and I agree with everything you said, almost.

But, I'm sure this has been pointed out, but, heck, I'm not going to read 100+ pages, I have some life, not ALL christians think homosexuality is wrong. There are churchs who accept it, and organizations to help gay youth, and then there's organizations to "help" people turn straight again. But I'm Christian, and I totally think homosexuality is okay, then again, I myself am gay, but that's not my point, not all Christians are homophobes, though I agree that some are.
Wow mega-post! very informative. I used to be christian myself I don't think I had ever put alot of thought into what was written but what you said in the post makes sense. kudos to you Loki.

Misconceptions on Hell: NOT A Fiery Domain Of Satan

First thing we’re going to do is tell you exactly what Popular Christianity makes people think hell is.

To PC, hell is a fiery little place of eternal torment immediately arrived at after death if you’re not saved. It’s ruled over by Satan, and has tons of demons in it.

That sound right? Well, it’s wrong. The word hell was stolen from the Norse Hel. In Norse Mythos, Hel was the goddess of the underworld of torment, a place of eternal frozen over-ness, known as Hel or Helheim.

First off: I love your threads. I love how you challenge the truth with facts and beliefs and love the way you argue. It's damn brilliant. ^^

Next though, I just wanted to ask what exactly this section was trying to prove? Honestly, I'm not challenging it or trying to be rude. I'm just...a seriously...slow individual and didn't quite catch on. -_-" I got that you don't believe that hell is...um...a place of fire? Honestly, I really am curious now, I just don't understand what it was you were trying to prove exactly; other than hell is a mistranslation of some kind? sweatdrop

(Ah yes. And yes, I did read all your posts, all your points and followed many links. ;3 Thanks again for making this place ^^)

I'm known to err from time to time, but I suspect Loki brought Hel up, in particular, in order to outline the source of the name we apply to Hell. Since that section goes on to discus where more of the "fillings" of PC "Hell" hail from, as well, he may have been seeking to be thorough regarding all the inspirations that lead the the conglomorate current idea of the unpleasant place.

First off, we need to define a few terms. These are terms that will help guide the path of this thread, as well as understand the differences between things.

Christianity – Christianity is, typically, a belief in the teachings of Jesus the Christ. It is a belief that He is the Son of God and the Son of Man, Alpha and Omega, and the Messiah prophesied in the Holy Texts of the prophets. Belief in the resurrection of Christ, endowment of the Holy Spirit, and the Bible are also normally beliefs included in Christianity.

Gnosticism – Gnosticism is a form of Christianity that, to be honest, I don’t have much of a clue about. However, it is to be noted that Gnostic Christianity is distinctly different from Established Christianity, that of the Church founded by the Apostle Paul. I merely want it to be known that we will not be discussing Gnosticism in this thread. For more on Gnosticism, look for the threads mentioned in the last post.

Popular Christianity – We’ll note now that, yes, this one is a tad different from Christianity. Unfortunately, it’s also what nearly everyone claims or thinks is Christianity, and it’s been giving Christians a bad name for a while. Another name for this might be embellished Christianity. Basically, it is a faith in the Church or the Clergy, a faith that whatever they say on matters pertaining to the Bible and the Spirit. People that ascribe to this version of Christianity almost never have actually read the Bible, are unable to list the Ten Commandments, and are laden with other woes and ignorance that is found easily in the Scripture. It’s this type of Christianity that spawns so many problems and misconceptions, especially thanks to the Catholic Church and the Papacy being able to say whatever they wanted about the Bible and be infallible. Misconceptions that sprout from this PC include Hell, homosexuality is a sin, the Deadly Sins, etcetera. Those misconceptions spawned from this form of Christianity are what we’ll be covering.

Sin – Here’s a word some people use a tad liberally. A sin is simply a transgression against God and His Laws. Cursing is not sinful, but cursing God is. Lashing out in anger is ALSO not sinful. Jesus Christ Himself did it on at least two occasions. Once in the Temple, and once on a road, striking a fig tree with withering plague. Also, just because it is sinful does not mean it is horrendously wrong. Imagining someone in a sexually pleasing to you manner is lust, a sin. However, it is not a “great evil”. There is no sin that cannot be forgiven, except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. And that’s a Biblical fact.

These next posts will deal with common MAJOR misconceptions Christians have.
