Before Prop. 8, I had no problems with Mormons. They could do whatever they wanted as long as I didn't have to see it or hear about it. But, after all of the Prop. 8 stuff, I've learned to hate them with a firey passion. Well, most of them anyway. I've never met a good one, since I live in the middle of no where, but I know that not all of them supported Prop. 8.
I am very displeased with the Mormon anti-gay initiatives and stuff, but they are really no worse than any other judaeo-christian religious group in that regard.

I disagree.

Also, some Adventists.

Sweetpea - men can be priests and have spiritual authority, but women cannot. I guess it's a bit of misogyny left over from the polygamy days.

Course, they're hardly unique among judeo-christian religious groups on that account either.

Mormons have the possibility of changing their stance on female priesthoood. Priesthood in Mormonism is not like Catholic Priesthood, whose primary function is saying Mass followed by hearing confession.

Honestly, I still can't understand WHY there is a Mormon religion still. I mean, back in the day when news of events wouldn't spread past the town limits, sure. But nowadays, we know about the origins of the group, as well as a lot of info on their founder. And you would think, that with a batshit crazy obvious conman aspect of it would make people go "Ha! 'Golden Tablets' in America? Indians are really Jews? Black are cursed by God? Jesus is going to return in America? It's okay to hump a multitude of underage chicks as long as we call them wives? ******** YOU JOHN SMITH! I'm out...where's my Playstation?"

You have stated it far better than I ever could. It would seem that the information age would catch up with these people but those who are deeply entrenched have been endoctrinated to suspend their rational minds when it comes to their "restoration" and "continuing revelation."

He looked very missionary-like until he was s**t faced on the futon.
That is pretty hilarious.

Take your blaspheming and scatter abroad! To outer darkness with you! gonk

I guess I shouldn't say I found this funny too?

Awwww, Noora, he wasn't a real missionary... and it was Halloween... I've never seen a real Mormon drunk. Do y'all drink?

please...Mormons arent even allowed to drink coke.

Actually, we can drink coke, many of us do, I prefer the occasional Mountain Dew. And yes......There are those that do drink, even though drunkedness is condemned by the Bible.

I don't really see anything that is an argument. It just seems like it is all opinion. And I just want to know where it says anything to the contrary in the Bible concerning the items that you have brought up.

And you can't even call Joseph Smith by his true name. At least come to me with a scrap of LDS knowledge, otherwise you are no better than the other half of the world.

I just wish to clarify that the LDS church would never force a new convert or other Mormon to divorce their non-mormon spouse.

Churches get tax exempt status, but I am not sure they are forbidden to turn a profit.

Never said they forced people to divorce, but they are a business whose organization is no less corrupt than Pat Robertson or Dr. Dino.

I know you didn't say the divorce bit I borrowed your quote to mention it, Akhenaton. May I call you Akie? blaugh
Is Pat Robertson corrupt? I think he is just an old coot.

Well he could just be a republican figure for all we know.

He did attempt a run for the whitehouse in a previous decade. Was it a bid for the R ticket? Or did he run as an indy?

I think he was on the republican ticket. He is the leader of the religious right after all.

The LDS church was extremely racist, although not fully so, when I was growing up in that faith. We lived down south when George Wallace was governor of Alabama during segregation and there were numerous Mormon converts who had joined specifically because they were turned on by the teaching about "the negro."
Well, everybody in the south is racist.

No. Remember there are persons of African descent living in the south, too baby cakes.
You know quite well what I mean, haha.

Besides, you are telling me that black people can't be racist towards whites? I'm sure they have at least some racial animosity going on.

Yah, actually, Come the Revolution, were all planning to turn back to cannibalism and eat y'all... mrgreen

To be serious- if the men are priests, are the women priestesses?

Sweetpea, my perfume Tigress . . . about "priestesses" there are a number of Mormon women who are interested in having a female priesthood, however currently women share in their husbands priesthood without being called by such a title. The future may hold a possibility of female priests of some sort. In the LDS Church anything is possible because they are not bound by any constraints such as tradition or adherence to sacred scripture.

That's a little confusing. How do you share in a priesthood? Either you are sanctified or you're not...
I'll be watching, I think, the future developments. Just out of curiosity.

The argument that is, because the modern world is well aware of the early history of that group, as well as the wonderfully inconsistent founder, Joseph Smith (you were right, I must have been having a brainskip to like...Pocahontas or something). And to the point of the Bible, no ware does it make ANY of the claims where good ol' Joe said "hey guys, check this out!!!" and added the aforementioned pants-on-head retardedly obvious conman bullshit.

Do you have a discussion point, or are we all just going to go "Yup, Mormons are dumb" and move on?

There must be at least ONE Mormon in the ED...

We're here, but we're tired of repeating the same thing 20x times.

Let me know when you have something original.

Again, while I agree completely with all this, you would think people would be smart enough not to believe in any of the other multitudes of stupid religions.

@ Kaosgirl - there are exceptions to every rule. Perhaps I should have clarified by saying 'mainstream' religions. I find it highly unlikely that the mormon church has had a larger impact on gay marriage than the catholic church, which is larger, more widely respected, and equally conservative.

I also take offense that you don't have any poll answers that state Mormons are okay people and the religon is alright.

Pick any Mormon from a crowd, and tell me they are a bad person. Hell, they're better then any other person you could find.
