I'm white and straight (as far as I know) how come I don't get any special benefits?
LOLWUT?
YOu get the first shot when applying for a job, first one to get a raise, you're not overlooked by customers due to your skin, you don't have people making racist or homophobic comments when you're just out of earshot (or so they think)... Your privilege is that you don't have our disadvantage of race or sexuality, and you have grown so accustomed to it that it is the norm, so you do not belive that you have it at all.

Yeah but if there is a white guy and a black guy going for the same job, and the white guy is better qualified the black guy can still sue the company for discrimination because he wasn't given the job over the white guy.

And if I get bullied at work, for I dunno my hair or my name or whatever no one cares. It'll be like suck it up. If I was black, everyone would be like aww you're so abused lets help you sue people.

Only if race was why. If the qualifications, experience, or criminal past were different, then...

To hell with Valentine's Single's awareness Day

Stupid posts in the C/T get you a duck.

Small steps folks small steps. collectivity we all have a long way to go. Really all of this will never really go away until we finally agree that race, gender, and sexuality are just social constructs.

Really the root of all this evil is classicism

Just be thankful I replied to your post.(Kind of) Oh and if you enjoy any or all my post you should take a peek inside my Gaia's journal there's more! (Usually) I'm opinionated to a fault. But I still love me for me cause I'm B &P!

All of this damage because Bill and steve were not protected against bigotry in the workplace, school's, courts, and their communities before they got married.

Interesting sidenote:

Legislative protection is a moot point when nobody (but the miscreants who'd ignore legislative deterrents anyway) cares to display bigotry. And winning the right to marriage in the public (rather than through the court systems) is a good sign we've come close to that point.

Not a perfect sign. But a pretty good one.

Only if he can find a lawyer willing to take the case. And if it's open-and-shut in your favor, he's not going to find a lawyer.

I call bullshit on the "everyone" claim. Because, y'know, if everyone was thinking that you wouldn't be getting bullied in the first place.

As long as Christians are guaranteed the same protection as gays, it's fine.

When gays are treated better than Christians, though, I'll start being a fundie a*****e.

Christians don't need to be protected by the laws, they need to be muzzled by it, wile the hate crime bill is a big victory, we can NOT undermine what's happened in Main. Currently Christians are allowed to walk over who ever they want, they are allowed Impose their own beliefs into laws, they are allowed to bash who ever they want, I have never ONCE seen police stop street preachers from publicly bashing gays with their anti homosexual speeches and signs, THe state of main has taken two steps back after taking one step forward. Perhaps this hate crime bill, will keep these dam fundies in check, and perhaps help us to win the fight for equal marriage rights.

Gay rights are about love. Let us therefore show love to each other.

Tolerance, Respect, & Love, Say no to Intolerance and hate.

Gays, men and women, can fall in love just the same as straights.
Love knows no gender.

Guess what? Talking about transsexuals in general includes me in the picture. Again, there are men in the military without dicks. They manage to make it through somehow. End of.
that actually doesn't answer my question at all. Do these dickless men have vaginas? Are they legally men?
I intend to have my chest surgery before joining the military (if I ever get to), because I wouldn't be able to wear my binder, so yes, I would legally be a man.

Plus, they'd only know I had a vag if I spread my legs naked. Which I won't. I have a male pubic hair pattern, at first glance they'd just think I had a tiny d**k. And since they're straight and it's "gay" to look at mens' crotches for too long, I doubt they'll be examining me.
You said there were transsexuals in the military. I'm asking about them. Are they legally men? I want to know how they go about that.
No, I didn't. I said there are intersex people in the military. Big difference there.

But there ARE transsexuals in the military, they're just "stealth" and haven't transitioned yet. Like an MtF transsexual (male-to-female, identifies as a woman) in the military is legally male, and she'll usually try to be as masculine as possible so no one suspects her secret. FtM transsexuals (female-to-male, identifies as a man) also exist in the military, pre-transition, they often just present as butch dykes because that's "acceptable" in the female gender role.

I am POST-transition, I have started testosterone, I absolutely cannot enter the military as a woman with my masculinized body.

I'm white and straight (as far as I know) how come I don't get any special benefits? You guys are always saying 'we wanna be equal!' but that's not actually true, you want special treatment. You wanna be able to complain if someone is mean to you, or doesn't agree with your lifestyle choice or amount of melanin. Being able to get married like everyone else, is equal so awesome (thumbs up.) Suing some for not liking because you're black/gay/whatever isn't. That's not equality, that's taking advantage of your own minority to force the majority to give into you.
You do get special benefits. You get marriage, we don't.

Also, the hate-crime legislation protects everyone. If someone beat the s**t out of you because you're white and straight, the legislation WOULD protect you. Granted, that instance is EXTREMELY rare, people usually don't get beat up for being "normal."

No, I don't wanna "be able to complain" when someone is mean to me or doesn't agree with my lifestyle choice (it's not a choice). I already HAVE THAT RIGHT, I can complain all I want.

You don't understand the hate-crime legislation. It's got nothing to do with suing people. A hate-crime has NOTHING to do with hate-speech, which is generally perfectly legal unless it causes other disruptions which lead to other crimes (like using hate-speech to start a riot, that would be a crime). But if you call me a "f*****t!" in an open public place and nothing else happens as a consequence, I can't sue you for that. Just like you can't sue me if I say you're a boring whitey who has vanilla sex.

A little gamblin' is fun when you're with me

'Cause I'm bluffin' with my muffin.
I'm still not seeing the big issue with DADT, what bearing does sexual preference even have on military service? Is it so important that people know you are gay in a situation where it is incredibly unimportant who is what sexual persuasion?

And OP there will be as much gay divorce as there will be straight divorce, though I have a massive problem with spousal benefits being denied gay couples by keeping marriage illegal, and that even same sex unions are not receptive of spousal benefits straight married people get purely due to the sexual preferences of the couple, thats pretty screwed.

And I'm pretty sure where I live violence against gays has been counted as a hate crime for a couple of decades... yay USA for... catching up? I'm stunned that only now it is recognized as a hate crime, thats pretty deplorable conduct by succesive legistators that only in 2009 this has eventuated.
