Wow, this again. No one gave two shits about gaming journalism until someone falsified an account of an indiegame developer sleeping around to get her FREE game more kudos. This, in fact, never happened. Then people decided Anita needed to be sk00led because she doesn't do x, y, and z despite the message of her videos being entirely correct. Anyone that says gaming culture is inclusive is on crack because I've been a gamer since I was 8, I'm 27 now, and men outnumber women, I am often called out for not 'being a real gamer' because 'gender' and other assorted bologna. SJWs suck but honestly? It's still important s**t and the messages are still important despite the poor way they are generally handled. Sending people death threats over GAMING BULLSHIT is just ridiculous. I mean, have you people read the boards on 8chan? It's insane. It's all freaking insane. I'm just going to sit here and play silent hill 3 over and over again and hope that someday someone will make a game I can relate to instead of churning out masturbatory fuel for pimply basement dwellers.

Feminist kill joy? Maybe. Gamer? Definitely.

Thank you! That's how I have felt when I started reading into this whole event after seeing this thread. Prior to this thread, I had no idea about the "Gamergate" thing because, although I am a lifelong gamer, I am not insane.

Then I started reading into it and I was like, "Holy shitballs!" People are doxxing each other, sending death and rape threats. Stalking people with creeper phone messages and hate mail. s**t, someone even threatened to BOMB someone over this. It feels like just yester-year I was at the pizza parlor down the block in a Street Fighter arcade tournament. How the hell has gaming gotten to this level. And all this over something which has been conclusively proven to have NEVER happened.

I feel like MLK from the episode of the "Boondocks" where MLK wakes up after years in a coma and tries to revive his radical socio-political movement. When faced with the current state of the African American community he shouts, "But lo and behold some four decades late what have I found but a bunch of trifling, shiftless, good for nothing niggers?"

I wish I could say something of the same thing to the same thing to the gaming community: "But lo and behold some twenty years later what have I found but a bunch of trifling, immature, trollish basement losers? Is this what I got all those a**-whoopin's for?"

Agreed. Even assuming it WAS true and more than the baseless revenge-porn of a jilted boyfriend who apparently has more issues than the girl with a mental health disorder, what does ANY of this really even matter? It was one obscure indie developer most people never even heard of before these people blew up about it who made a game most people won't play and most wouldn't even have known existed had these people again not blown up about it because she supposedly got a favorable review about it by a guy she had been in a relationship with--a claim that has already been debunked. The game is free. It would have faded into obscurity had these people not thrown such a fuss over it.

Seriously, the type of person to write over a thousand pages of BS about why they're a victim is a person who needs to get a life. Maybe the rest of these so-called "gamers" should join him in doing so.

Well, it's pretty much official at this point.

At least one member of the GamerGate community has essentially become a terrorist.

The rape/death threats against Anita, Brianna, Zoe, and multiple others were bad enough, but this?
I guess the bomb threats from Anita's award ceremony in March weren't enough.

Personally, I don’t entirely agree with all her points, but that doesn’t make me want to kill her. You can disagree and coexist, but I don’t think that’s the problem here. There’s something else that is…gross at the most fundamental human level. That scares me, and it should scare everyone else.

I feel like, as a whole, our society needs to be more perceptive of this sort of thing.. Becoming more empathetic towards the people around us will help prevent this from happening to people we know.f you identify yourself as a gamer, be willing to call out the industry’s bullshit like an adult, instead of like a toddler who only knows how to hit people he can’t play nice with.

Also, Its depressing to think a US police force wouldn’t ensure the safety of someone who has been threatened and harassed at an event.
And why the ******** are guns still allowed on school campuses. Did those hundreds of school shootings teach America nothing....?

Gamergate as a whole is about shedding light on the gaming journalist industry.

Both sides of the coin are just as guilty as each other in regards to bullying and s**t flinging.

If you are against gamergate, that's fine just move along and ignore the hashtag.

If you are for gamergate then do your part by sharing information, being informed and not falling for the bait from the other side.

I personally remove myself from the bullying nor condone it.

I can’t get behind this “both sides are wrong” narrative, sorry. One side is more wrong than the other / others, and that is precisely because one side is promoting serious harm.
Anyone who bands together on the assumption that people who commit "questionable journalistic ethics" (who surprisingly happen to just be only woman hmmm gee I wonder why) or a misuse of evidence in what is essentially a morally upright argument (anita) are deserving of death and harassment, is completely ******** wrong.
Death threats and the dismissive attitudes surrounding it are wrong.

If at any point you propose violence as a reprisal for non-violent acts, you just became the ******** bad guy here. . If you sanction, condone, ignore, dismiss, or diminish a real threat of violence, you are also the worse of the two evils here.

I don't know where you got either idea from. Gamer Gate is hardly concerned with Zoe Quinn anymore and despite what people would have you think, it's not a bunch of angry white men and boys attacking all the women in the game industry. The NotYourShield hashtag proves that. Gamer Gate has targeted multiple "journalists", both male and female, who have shown to use unethical practices in their writing, like insulting gamers after being called out on their bullshit.

Gamer Gate does not sanction or condone violent acts against anyone and many member of the movement have actively reported and protected anyone who has been harassed. The situation with Anita is simply out of anyone's hands at the moment but no one but a very vocal and angry minority is supporting the threats against her and there is no evidence that the person who threaten to kill Anita and others in Utah was even part of Gamer Gate or supported it.

Insulting gamers isn't an unethical practice (They sure called Milo out on that one btw). There's also the fact plenty of gamers do not see it as an attack on them.

Also jumping in with Breitbart says very little for how ready they are to evenly call people out on their lack of journalistic integrity. Rather it lends to the idea that they don't like certain views being tossed around and they want those gone, not to introduce more ethics.

What? Maybe you can actually make a post with content if you want an answer? I have no clue what your problem is with my post. Do you think that it's an unethical practice to insult people?

I don't generally consider it right conduct to insult people.

That's just how they're operating here and elsewhere. Completely disregard anything you say, talk about how poor, poor Anita received threats on the internet (when the guy responsible for a lot of them was actually outed by someone from GamerGate, including having his full name, career, workplace, and home address placed out there, and the police called on him, only to find out that Brazilian police don't care about cyberbullying) and pretend this is all just some elaborate smoke screen for "fratboy basement-dwelling dudebro neckbeards" (whatever the ******** that is) to be mean to women on the internet.

It makes absolutely no sense, but hey, considering this entire debate is about truthiness vs. truth, and the people that are fighting for truthiness are the ones spewing this bullshit, I guess it doesn't really need to.

Talking about it on here gives me a headache. I just prefer to let Tumblr Jr. group hug and hope that someone's hand wandering doesn't trigger someone else.
