Welcome to Gaia! ::

Some of you are skinny. Some of you were born skinny and stayed skinny. Some of you, are fat, or became fat after your metabolism slowed down, after you got pregnant, or after you moved to a city full of junk food.

Those of you who are skinny, are often directly or indirectly opposed to Fat people - like fat people aren't normal and need to lose weight to look like they belong. Kind of like in that Episode of Hell's kitchen where the guy is too fat to be permitted on the Helicopter ride (with several other people).

Now, what a lot of you who are fat don't know, and most of you who are skinny have probably forgotten, is something called Stretch marks. I did some checking, and they do not go away naturally. They cost upwards of $15,000 to remove with less than a good chance of success. Now some of you, who are fat, have probably been on several diets. You might have tried exercise, granola bars, yogurt, salads and lean meats. A few of you have actually figured out how to lose weight. What you aren't telling the rest of the fatties is itself more disgusting than a bucket of liposuctioned lard. You aren't telling them that even if they Do lose weight, they will be scarred for life. And the fatter they were, the more scars they will have.

Seriously, I have to ask at this juncture: What's the point?

Is weight loss - even the kind that reduces waste size, and builds muscle - is it worth it, when you will never be able to wear a swimsuit again? I put forward the idea that weight loss and dieting are largely pointless if your weight isn't going to kill you - because the stretch marks are going to look just as unpleasant to strangers as the fat would have been.

Why do you think fat people should still lose weight, if they are going to still look gross even after all the effort (such as the TV show "Biggest Loser)? Discuss.
Weight loss isn't necessarily done for superficial reasons.
Honestly, if I was to manage to lose my weight, I'd fork over the 15K for the surgery to get rid of the extra skin/stretch marks. 15K to wear a bikini.

Man, that's ******** up.

But I'd do it.
Weight loss that builds muscle and promotes good health is always worth it. It's not all about the swim suit.

If I had stretch marks, I would wear them with pride. It means, yeah. Okay. I was fat. So what? I had the willpower to make myself healthy and fit again. I don't care if it looks strange or not. However, I can't speak for everyone.

I have stretch marks from growing tall too fast, and those can be covered by a tattoo if I wanted. They're not that bad.

It makes sense if you can afford to send your kids to college without needing scholarships, or if you can afford a new car every couple of years, but check this out: losing weight requires a change in diet that costs perhaps $20 extra per month in groceries to change over unhealthy eating habits, and costs essentially nothing in exercise. Even if you have a "program" it's like 40-50 bucks a month for the gym.

I think what I'm alluding to isn't that people can't pull together 15k to wear the bikini, it's that they are being lied to about the "whole" of the process - told if they spend $200 at the gym and a couple of months training - they will be out on the beach again with attractive potential mates.

$200 =/= $15000. It reminds me of a hidden fee, or those cosmetic centers that only cost $500 to "permanently _____" until you discover it takes 16+ treatments ($500 now equals $8000+ wtf?)
As someone that was born skinny and is having problems gaining weight, I honestly think that being super skinny is almost as unattractive as being really overweight.

I think the point of losing weight comes down to two things: Health and Self Esteem, and anything that helps with either one of those things is worth the effort.

what is a fatass to do if their body image after losing weight is even more repulsive to themselves than their previous fatty selves?

Stretch marks aren't always as bad as you're making them out to be.

And anyways, they can atleast be proud that they accomplished their weight loss goal, as losing weight can be very difficult.
You obviously are unaware that stretch mark lotion does exist and that it is effective in removing the scars. It's worked for everyone I've ever met who has decided to use it, including myself thanks to the growth spurts my breasts have experienced. Not to mention, some people don't give a s**t about whether they have stretch marks or not. They'd rather have a few lines than three spare tires around their middle. Ever think about that?

Answer: No, or else we wouldn't be having this conversation.

And I think it's beyond stupid that you posted this if you are obviously anti-weight loss. People lose weight to feel better about themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. The fact that they can even fit into that swimsuit is an accomplishment in itself.

Mostly to please societal pressure around them to conform to a very unrealistic standard that includes an Adonis complex and a patriarchal expectation of beauty from women. Fat people have been deemed by society as something to rid ourselves of, as something unnatural due to very narrow views of what MOST FAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE.

But of course, as long as the fatties are gone, society is happy.....until it finds another natural physical difference in humanity to divide and alienate the masses with. Maybe it'll be eye color next??? Or hair length? Or maybe fingernail length......

Know what's better?

Focusing on 'good health' and forgetting about the weight. It's a terrible indicator of health.

"losing weight" is an ongoing process that involves keeping a healthy mindset. It's not easy, but it is something that pays off. Longer life, healthier, it's beneficial to everything xd
