How d you feel about Fat Acceptance?

Is it a group of people in denial about some serious health issues.
Or
A group of people looking for equal treatment while finding comfort with themselves.

It's an interesting topic and I'm sure there is a bit of both but do you think there is a place for this movement?
Both.

Mind you, being fat isn't necessarily unhealthy, but being obese is. People tend to get the two confused.

But then most people who are obese assume they're just fat.

That's true. There is a funny video at the bottom of the page in the link. Meme Roth makes a fun comparison about how being fat and healthy is like being a smoker who hasn't gotten lung cancer yet.

That's the gist of it. Obesity specialists tend to compare fat acceptance campaigns to smoking campaigns in the same manner.

from my understanding obesity is more costly to the government than smoking. Can't find that article though.

The irony being that "obesity" isn't even well defined. xp

Well, and a lot of that was over exaggerated.

There were more obesity deaths than actual deaths according to the WHO for a long time. xp

You could us a BMI calculator to define it

Except it doesn't actually focus on body fat.

Considering it's not really related at all it's kind of silly. xp

it tough to calculate but because most of the costs are due to things linked to obesity. Like diabetes, heart problem, joint problems etc. a small percentage of those people may have had those thing regardless.

Smoking is easier to define damage-wise

Mhhm.

Only about 50% of people with diabetes are obese, and yet about 50% of the population is obese, so, the correlation is rather poor. sweatdrop

thats true a bodybuilder with 5%'body fat would look obese. Still it covers the average perso. So the majority would be calculated with a pretty decent degree of accuracy.

Without people actually going to the doctor it's the best tool we have.

well that's one of the things I said covered. Lets not pretend obesity doesn't cost countries with healthcare money.

Both smoking and obesity are costly and unhealthy. I'm more focused on the movement.because behind a lot of crazy there is something great. People learning to happy with themselves regardless of what society says. That's something we need more of.

But it doesn't, really.

Since BMI isn't an accurate measure, and the measure of obesity has no real accurate measure, what's it even based on?

Was their any kind of scientific study done to reveal what body fat percentage you'd want to be at, or what "size" you'd want to be?

Not really. O_o

So while it could just be a random shot in the dark, the answers aren't really based on anything scientific anyways. ._.

It's still a heavily disputed field.

But these are all kinks to be worked out.

With a sonic spectrometer, it would be awesome! blaugh
