Welcome to Gaia! ::

I'm sad that no one has anything to say about what I wrote yesterday...
Really good.

I also suggest some bone-head evidence, such as, the obvious, for people who can't read graphs. xd

What sorts of things would you consider putting in?

And I'm not really worried about "reading the graphs" so much as noticing the general similarity in shape.

Hmn. Well, dumb people are going to get confused. xd

I think embryology is a GREAT example of how to show people that organisms have common ancestors. The embryos look very similar. They think it's just a coincidence, but it isn't.

a beneficial mutation?

evidence, please.

also, i'd like to see evidence for the relation of australopithecus to humans, other than they 'walked upright', which isn't even valid evidence in my opinion...

You mean besides the dozens of telltale anatomical features that mark them as hominids?

I'd like to say thanks, VoijaRisa, for making this board. You did an excellent job of complying all of that information. Unfortunately, I doubt that many will be converted. The idea of someone guiding and watching over us, in addition to eternal life, it's a bit too comforting for people to abandon it that easily. People have been denying reason and logic for ages. Ockham's Razor plays an unfortunately insignificant role in society these days.

Anyways, enough of my pessimistic rambling. I'm going to review the debate and see if there's anything I can think of worth adding...

People do not need to abandon their god! Most religions play nice with science, so to speak. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Point taken. I realize I was making a generalization there.

I don't like it when people say things like that, because that kind of thinking hurts both sides. I may not be religious, but I don't need to be to know that line of thinking is poisonous.

A reasonable doubt: "How can the big bang be true when we haven't seen any evidence of the universe expanding?" (We've seen it, by the way)

Unreasonable: "HOw can the Big Bang be true when the chocolate monkey sof Equadoria 3.568779 haven't tap danced yet?"

And where, exactly, has our universe expanded? All we've done was find different solar systems, and things like that. That doesn't make our universe expand, it just means we've found more.

And where, exactly, has our universe expanded?

Ouch...The stupidity there was painful even for the amateur astronomer, I can't imagine how agonizing that must be for Voija...

The short answer is everywhere.

And prove that they're (other galaxies [with a few exceptions] at least) are moving away from us as can be seen via redshifts. So either space is expanding (and dragging celestial objects (without strong gravitational attractions) further apart), or everything except Andromeda and the Magellanic clouds is behaving exactly as if it were.

Aye, moving away. Not expanding. (I lol'd) My left eye moves away from my right eye, does that mean my face expanded, too? No. It just means it's moved from it's original place, as with our universe.
