Welcome to Gaia! ::

So according to this article a VA school wants to ban crossdressing because they say it maes people get bullied so it is actually for the protection of the trans students because they care oh so much.

virginia stupidity.

Perhaps if virginia wasn't a bunch of ******** up redneck dickheads they might not have as much bullying. Really, people should not pretend they are free thinking progressives when they are banning behavior that makes them uncomfortable. This is not being done to help out trans students, this is being done because they hate trans people and the excuse of bullying is just a lie to make themselves feel better about being a ******** up bunch of bigots.

Why do I never hear about anything good coming out of Virginia? confused

Quote:
"If a girl comes to school wearing jeans and a flannel shirt, is that considered cross-gender dressing?" he told Reuters, adding that a misunderstanding of the issues could actually make the students more susceptible to bullying.

"They're calling it cross-dressing, but if that individual was wearing clothes that reflect their gender identity, that's not cross-dressing, that's appropriate gender dressing," he said.

The article already brings up the two major points that popped into my head as I read this.

It's specifically targeting gender minorities and ruthlessly forcing people to cross-dress. By not letting a trans girl wear skirts they are in fact promoting cross-dressing because her gender is female, not male, despite whatever her current anatomy is.

The board seems to think people "cross-dress" just because it's fun or fashionable or something, when actually it's an important factor in alleviating the dysphoria and depression these children face when they are forced to present themselves to the world as a gender that they've never identified with.

Why punish the students whose only crimes are dressing like the peers of their actual gender and already have to face discrimination at every turn?

Shouldn't we reprimand the students who are harassing and abusing these kids?

It's not the dressing in a certain way that's the problem, it's allowing teenagers to violate and disrespect the human rights of their peers.

I've never understood the appeal of crossdressing other than for comedic purposes. I certainly don't think they should ban it. But I really don't get it.

Ahhh, I can alleviate your confusion. You see, it is not necessary at all because you do not need to understand it. You are unimportant and your ideas really do not matter in this particular case. No one in this world who is crossdressing really needs or cares for your approval so you can put that confusion behind you and go on with your life knowing that very simply you are incapable of understanding, that is how you were born.

They should also not punish the victims of bullying and should rather turn to beating their neandrathal redneck crotch droppings when they get out of line. Perhaps VA will make a law telling nerds they will throw them in jail for choosing to make people angry with them by being intelligent and not dressing in the present MTV style lie the sheeple.

Quick question, about cross dressing;
why does it matter? Don't most girls these days wear pants?
I do think people should be free to wear whatever they please, and if a guy wants to wear a dress, so be it.
My question is, why do women "trapped in the wrong body" have such an attachment to dresses, if most girls wear pants?

I never said they needed my approval. Nor that my opinion was of note.

And, with the exception of skirts and dresses and a few other items, cross dressers can't really have much options considering most types of clothes are unisex these days.

You don't need to be so harsh... sweatdrop

It's actually not about cross-dressing, but allowing transgender students dress as the gender they identify with.

Like, almost every other girl I know likes to wear a dress for a special occasion. Sometimes we even like to wear a skirt once in a while.

This is about recognizing trans girls' right to wear a dress or skirt if they want to.

It's immaterial what everyone else wants to wear. If a girl wants to wear a veil when no else wants to should we keep her from doing so, even though it's her right?

I haven't noticed a greater attachment to dresses in trans girls than non-trans girls.
Ah...discrimination under the guise of progressiveness, how wonderful.

Haven't heard much of that before, it's a first for me.

"Let's ban stuff that makes us uncomfortable!"

"Yea, but how are we going to do it without looking like douchebags!"

Oh Americans, how unimpressed I am of you.

I'm surprised your country has lasted this long with all the stupidity living within it.

Good god, there's being progressive and then there's being modern. They aren't even modern, they actually have to debate about bringing themselves up to speed with the rest of the world.

Pathetic.

Yeah, but this is school.
Do you mean for picture day?

Light dresses and skirts are casual enough to be worn to school.

Why would any girl want to?

Like I said, from the trans girls I know, their fashion sense isn't different from any other woman.

I guess you're referring to the idea that due to having their femininity being repressed all their lives that dressing in an overtly feminine way is a way of making up for lost time?

I don't know, most women, trans or not, only wear skirts when they want to draw attention to themselves. If anything, trans girls are more likely to prefer wearing jeans most of the time so as to not draw attention to themselves.

Maybe this is a regional thing. I live on the northeast coast. I rarely, if ever, see girls wearing dresses to school. In fact, not counting picture days, I have seen more boys wearing dresses on regular school days than girls. (I don't think any of them were trans, though. In fact, one of my friends turned out to be trans, but wore pants all the time.)

Eh. Where I live, it's more than normal. Then again, we have sunny, cool days about 90% of the time here.
