"Animals" didn't eat from the forbidden fruit.

As such, they don't possess souls, and, obviously, can not transcend to an afterlife, after death.

That is a fundamentalist belief with no bases in Logic or fact, I do not believe nor support such a faith bound and very old belief.
I do not believe in heaven or hell, I believe in what we call the 'afterlife' I believe that we and ALL animal life, are all part of something greater then us, something most humans do not have the capacity to understand.

And that has "basis in logic and fact" that my example doesn't.......how?

As a practicing catholic, I have honestly pondered over this topic many times. I have only come up with one answer, why would god create an animal with personality, but not give it a soul? Or at least something like it, pure innocence of an animal I don't see as just going away. My guess is that they do go on to heaven.

I've just recently learned in my religion class (which I am forced to take, I attend a Catholic High School) that heaven is not a place at all.
Indeed, heaven is a MINDSET.
There is no physical place called 'heaven'.
It is, in fact, being in the presence of God after death for eternity.

How do you gain entrance to such a place ?
By having faith in the Lord and repenting your sins.
Now,
Dogs cannot sin.
Dogs have no conscious.
They cannot even grasp the notion of 'God' because they are not as mentally evolved as humans are.
Therefore, they cannot repent for their nonexistant sins and cannot be granted entrance to the eternal presence of God.
They simply don't have the mental capacity to do so.

The Book you refer to is not a credible source of proof, The bible cannot be used to prove it's own validity.
