My husband is stationed on Fort Hood, though at the moment he is deployed. Now I am so glad that not only is he not here for this, but that we chose not to live on post. So far, 13 people are dead, 30 are wounded with some undergoing surgery and/or in the ICU at various area hospitals right now. My prayers and sympathy goes to the victims and their families right now...this is just so messed up.

Where is your husand deployed too? Its a toss up for us whether we want to live off base or on base anymore. The crime is high on both. Sad.

He's over in Iraq, but he's due to return in less than 20 days.

That's great!! My hubby is going to be deploying to Iraq early December. For his 2nd tour.

Just as I feared, whenever a major mass shooting occurs that shocks the nation, it sets off a chain reaction that lasts a few weeks. ALWAYS happens. Hard to explain why...

Man goes on shooting rampage today at an office in Florida

Also, right when support for the Afghanistan and Iraq wars is at an all time low with both liberals and conservatives, out comes this Palestinian Muslim shouting "Allahu Akhbar", gunning down 45 people and killing 12 of them inside America's largest Army troop concentration in the US.

If this Nadal was truly in favor of people turning against America's wars, his actions guarantee
a renewed blind commitment just as more and more American troops die in the needless Afghan war and as Obama launches more missile strikes in Pakistan.

I wonder if this guy was on SSRI drugs, as virtually every infamous major shooter from Vtech to Columbine was on a cocktail of head meds.

Either way, I can't believe the sickening irony...these young 18-24 year old guys and girls having to deal with parting ways with friends and family to serve their country and have a bunch of stuff on their mind...end up being gunned down in what should be the most safest place for them. Obama was right when he mentioned the ironic horror of being killed not by Iraqi or foreign militants, but right in your own homebase.

I live in Killeen, used to live on Ft Hood.
I've been in that Readiness Center lots of time. It is always very crowded, w/ women and kids as well. Not that hard to shoot lots of people at one time.

BTW, please stop calling FH a "base". It is a POST.
Navy has bases.
It's a base. The Marines have bases, the Army has bases, the Navy has bases. Get over it.

Nope it's a post.

Broken windows theory. It's generally thought of on a smaller scale, graffiti inviting more graffiti, but it could be applied here. One killing showing someone else who was thinking about it that it's ok, even if it really isn't. It's just enough encouragement for someone who was considering it to begin with.

8 days to BCT....

The death rate of soldiers is acutally higher in America than Iraq and Afghanistan....so it's really not tha shocking. Shootings on bases are more common than you think. It happened where we're at just 2 months ago. Not to mention all the drugs, rape and murders of high school girls that has happened in the barracks. Don't look to politically into it....the guy had loose nuts. He's job made him listen to the horrors of Iraq for years. So he didn't take his future deployment well. It's very sad but it happens.

Not to further the arguement or anything but technically it is a Fort. Other than that it is a POST. Only the Airforce has bases.

Post and base are the same thing bud. But the army refers to the Forts as posts. When a soldier is relocated they have a new POST to go to not a new base. Airforce uses the word base. They mean the same thing, just the different militaries use them differently.

If you looked further down on that page, you'd see that he conceded to proof, and admitted he was merely being emotional. sweatdrop

Very good question. LoL I don't honestly know. I just know what my husband said. LoL

What makes sense to me is this (I just found out that it wasn't call a base btw LoL): They use the word Fort to give it a proper name, and the word base (or headquarters) is what it is, and the word post is the adjective use to discribe where the soldier is going.

Now I don't know if that's the case but it makes sense to me.

My brother was just stationed there.

You 3 Star Genral just did a live press that said he is alive...>.> I think he out rakes your chain.

I am glad he is alive. I hope they get all the info we need, we torture his a**, and then ******** kill him.

I am in the Army too, and I am pissed some of these people just got home >.< that mother ******** wish I could shoot him myself
Then you would just be as bad as he is.

I'm pretty ticked about it as well. But letting our anger get a hold of us, is only going to make things worse. It's best to be the bigger person.

Justice is not about being the bigger person. Justice is about what's right. It's about making a judgement and executing a punishment as appropriate. If I were to do the things these gunmen did, Tyr himself would come down from the sky and kick my a**.
Your type of justice is nothing more than revenge. neutral

no s**t its revenge!

When we are in Iraq and they make an atack on our FOB, what do we do? we go out there and find him and then kill his a**. When someone attacks us on out home post and kills 13 of our army family, hell yea I was to see some revange. I am soooo happy that he is alive because I know was doing to him between the time they said he was dead and reporting him to be alive. I pray they said him to jail because the aryan brotherhood will a fun time with his a**.
