I read about it on msnbc this afternoon and I watched it on the news. A lot of people on the Newsvine comment board whatchamacallit were saying it was a terrorist, a muslim, or a solider gone nuts.

They did release the identity on the slain solider, he is Lt. Major and he does have an arabic name, however whether or not he's an actual Muslim or not is unknown. There were 2 other people who were caught. Me and my dad were discussing it, and he thinks the attack is pre-emptive, however I think all three lost it some time ago and planned the attack. Kind of what happens in school shootings.

I'm glad that the Pentagon has decided not to give an speculations on the matter, all that is going to do is raise the anger level for many people. That's something what we don't need.

I don't know what happened, it's upsetting and unsettling to me because I do have a friend who is enlisted in the army and I hope to God(s) that he is not currently at Ft. Hood. However I'm going to wait for the facts to come out before anything else. Actually I'm going to see if he's on DA, and see what he knows..

Hold on hold on. Your saying that you take people unbalanced enough to kill over not being given the right title, give them training to help them do this, then put them on a pedistal?

What the ******** is wrong with you people?

Bah, it's not the Marines fault that Army boys can only take a light beating. wink

I don't get into service bashing. They all need to work together or the job doesn't get done. The only time I even joke about it used to be with my ex son-in-law, who was Air Force, and that was just to get him riled up because he was so cute and sweet when he was riled up about it.

I know it was a joke, but it's just not my thing. Now other kinds of jokes I jump right into! I can think of one right now that would relate to this, but I don't think it's quite the right time smile !

It's all in good fun. Anyone who takes it further than that shouldn't be in uniform.

My a** Rides In Navy Equipment, Sir!

Any updates on Fort Hood?

Yeah, I know it's all in fun. I would just like to have us united. But the jokes are SO rolling in here I almost want to join in! I literally am laughing here.

As for updates-on my, it's getting worse. The shooter was a Major. He was, get this, a psychiatrist , who worked with those who may have PTSD.

All the branches do work really well together. The jokes are mostly to blow off steam and kill time.

I saw the major bit further up the page, but a psych? Yikes. Aren't they supposed to be under evaluation fairly frequently?

"Stare not into the abyss, lest the abyss also stare into you," or however it goes. Nietsche was right about that, but not the way he thought. People who sit and listen to the ******** up problems of others all day start to get ******** up by it. Somebody probably told him something that was just the straw that broke the camel's back, or he got fed up with some of the faith-based s**t the DoD has handed down as treatments in recent years.

8 days to BCT....

@Overexposure: Decided to get rid of all that unnecessary quoting at this point.

Yes, I know it's all in fun, and I know they work fine together. As in another post, I was active years ago myself, and both my husband and father retired from the army. I used to love picking on my ex-son-in-law. The truth is, I was more afraid that if the normal jokes began here that it would deteriorate into all out war in the thread. Some people get way too serious, and off course there are civilians who don't understand it all, so you can see where I didn't want to join in. I don't like doing that kind of thing around civilians who don't understand it, as was seen with the one person who didn't get my joke about a marine possibly hurting someone for calling him a soldier. I didn't realize we have quite a few who are service connected.

As for the situation in Ft Hood, it ain't gettin' no better, that's for sure. They're saying that it had been heard he made negative comments about going over to the middle east. It's being said that he didn't want to be sent there. We may never know the whole story-you know the Army is only going to let us know what they WANT us to know.

Well, yea, but that is why I was under the impression that they were evaluated often-ish, for the exact purpose of catching that sort of thing.

And it makes no sense, if he was helping PTSD patients, why would he randomly kill military? Unless his recent conversion to Islam is actually true, and having to help people who may violently hate muslims was too much?

s**t sucks.

This is only going to make the hatred worse. ******** I had to listen to my dad who's an angstheist and a marine vet complain on how Muslims are lesser developed than us, and that religion is a disease for 20 minutes. -.-

I just heard about this myself. I have old buddies I have lost contact with that went to Ft. Hood, I hope they are all okay.

This is for all you girls about twenty-five
In a little apartment, just trying to get by
Living on, on dreams and spaghetti-o's
Wondering where your life is gonna go
My boyfriend is stationed at Ft. Hood, we live in Killeen though. I'm thankful we don't have a TV in the house and I had no idea what was going on until he called me, or I would have been losing my mind!!!

I feel very bad for everyone who was involved, very very sad. : /

I'm pretty sure they have it all under control now, I believe my boyfriend is on his way home. His buddies wife just called me and said she had to go and pick them up, so it should be all done and over with.

As it turns out 12 people are dead, but not the shooter. The shooter is still alive and is in the hospital under police custody.

Okay, I'm a soldier living on the base of fort hood, the shooting happened just across the street from me. it happened at the local SRP site, the Major in question was getting ready to deploy. There was three shooters, they only released the identity of one, the major, and he has been killed, unknown about the other two but they are in some sort of custody. There was 13 dead and 31 wounded. No names were released as of yet of who was injured or killed. They are still not sure about what his motives are.

Now, that is what I know so far of what has happened. But my feelings on the whole situation? I was just locked down in a building for seven hours with 30+ people, we were told not to step outside and to inform our family members that we are okay. They weren't even releasing any info to us during our lock down, all we could gather was what was showing up on online news, which we weren't even sure if it was correct or not. I spent seven hours talking to scared and teary family members and friends who were scared for my safety, and I had to frequently reassure them that I was okay and safe.

What bothers me most about this is that I just got back from a year long deployment in Iraq, and not once did I ever receive so much contact from family and friends over my safety and well being till now. Neither have I ever gone through so much security check points with armed military members checking and inspecting every car in such a short distance from my office to my barrack's, not even in Iraq did I see this. It's shocking to see that a military base in garrison was able to have this happen to it, people are coming back from fighting in a war, they shouldn't have to deal with just as much danger on American soil on a military base. I'm not sure as to how this was handled, but it seems that the armed forces could have done a lot more to prevent this from happening. As soon as 9/1 happened security was tightened, but that happened a while ago, security is now loosened on military bases, and I can tell you on Fort Hood between the hours of 1000 a.m. to 1400 p.m. anybody can get on base. Not only that, but any soldier on fort hood can go to a local gun shop can get any kind of weapon they want in less than twenty minutes, doesn't matter if they just got back from deployment or not. It just seems that so much could have been prevented, this shouldn't have happened.....

Actually, I just saw on BBC World News America, that the major is actually okay, and in stable condition, and in custody.

As every other news outlet are giving mixed information, they can't even give the total amount of dead and wounded correct. I was informed by top authorities on my base, by my chain, that the major is dead, as he should be.

EDIT: Sorry, I might have sounded a little rude, but it's been a really long day for me...
