My contribution: My cat, my business. You don't own my cat, you don't care for my cat, you don't buy the food for my cat, you don't come over and clean up after my cat. I do. If I want to declaw my cat, that's my business. If I want to shave my cat, give him a mohawk and dye him red, it's my business. So, unless all you "No, don't declaw him" people really want a say in whether or not I declaw my cat now or in the future, pay up and buy him. Otherwise, stay out of my business.

YOU didn't adopt my cat, YOU're not paying to feed him, house him, take him to the vet or buy his tick collars. Until you do or you buy my cat, you have no right to tell me that what I'm doing is wrong.

I don't tell you how to treat your pets, you don't tell me how to treat mine. Just because you believe something doesn't mean I have to. And, since none of you can get that through, my cat stays with me until someone coughs up cold hard cash. How much is my cat's claws worth to you?

Cats aren't objects. Just like kids aren't objects, and you can't do whatever you want with either one just because they're your responsibility.

On the contrary, you're free to do whatever you want with them, so long as it does not endanger the animal/child.

Oh I think some people would get some calls if your kid showed up to school with a mohawk. Even more people would get calls if they find out it was forced on the kid.

You'd be surprised how many calls really come though about kids with mohawks. Forced is another thing, but still.

Considering how many kids I see with mohawks, dyed hair and the like before they're out of elementary school, I doubt my kid showing up with a mohawk will stir anyone's interest.

When did I tell you or anyone how to take care of your cat? Please show me that. I have shown why it isn't a good idea because of the harm it causes cats. I have shown where the AVMA has taken a stance against it. I have shown that shelters are now requiring that people who adopt not declaw cats. Never one did I tell anyone that they couldn't do it....with the exception of the time I spend working at the local shelter....but on here not once have told anyone that they couldn't. Myself and many others who realize that this is nothing more then a cruel practice are working to pass legislation that will make it illegal but for now declaw all the cats you want. No one is going to stop you. Thankfully many vets are listening to the AVMA and refusing to do the procedure but you can still get it done.

I do find it amusing how everyone of you makes this about yourself. This matter isn't about you or met; it's about what is in the best interest of all cats.Yes, I do feel that you are ignorant and selfish but what someone across the country or world thinks about you shouldn't matter. The world does not revolve around you and your cat any more then it revolves around me and mine.

well i have a kitty and i would just rather simply trim her nails for one main reason. because if she ever for whatever reason get out of the house... i dont want her to be bullied with no claws to defend herself.

other then that though i think declawing should be soley up to the owner. besides im sure the cat is put under during the declawing so its not like it would really hurt...

but i still agree that cats should never be declawed.

It's medically unsound. It is a bad choice for every pet. It changes the form and function of the foot so the animal is never the same again. It has to shift it's balance to walk which causes it to pull up lame. A good number of cats turn into biters because they have lost their first line of defense and that causes them to lose their happy home anyway. I have no bad personal experience with declawing because I've never declawed a cat. Declawing is abusive and with California having passed legislation that makes it illegal the ball has started rolling to end the procedure entirely.
