Xena of Lust
Look, Animals have no rights. It's what the owner wants to do. Condemn them all you want, but if they want to do it, they're going to do it.
I like my things to remain nice. I like my pets, and I'd like them to stay with me.
The solution is get rid of my nice things, get rid of my pets, or declaw them.
Hmm, I wonder which is the smartest.

In the end, it's not exactly fair, but human beings do top the order of the universe thusfar.
It can't be argued that if we want a cat to not have claws we're just going to come up with a way to do it.
I hope that someone actually said that at some point, because here we are, and it is ridiculously pointless to have a problem with this. I would quote my own post a few pages back but i'm lazy, i had more to say about it then, and, to carry the point to something actually meaningful, why are we so worried about animal rights when we're doing the unthinkable to other human beings every day.
I have no respect for a heart that bleeds over a cat's claw, and i think two big citations are Sarajevo, Bosnia and east timor. I've had the experience to witness the s**t that went down in Sarajevo and you wouldn't believe it, and if you googled some images on it, you'd be sick.
Anyway, if you did see it, i think it would become pointless, the whole cat declawing thing, i mean, give it a rest. Forget the ******** cats and save a human being's fingers, amputations big torture these days.

Its fine. You're overreacting.
It's fine to cut a joint off just because people don't want to take the time to train their animal?
There is such a thing as an untrainable animal. If you can't train it, then its the only alternative.

Why don't we declaw dogs since they scratch up floors and doors?
Easier to maintain their nails. Plus, they don't have claws...at least, from what I know about dogs.

Why don't we defang all animals so they can't bite us?
You're working on a slippery slope here.
Yes, dogs have claws; they're not retractable like cats claws, but it doesn't change the fact that they're claws and capable of doing a lot of damage. Whenever my brother asks me to look after his dogs, I always tell him that's fine, but their little nails had better be trimmed before they come over because I don't need gouged out wood floors.
I just figured they were nails. Those are fairly easy to maintain, in any case.

Our vet was telling me people have come into his office and asked about claw removal for dogs, rabbits, and many other animals aside from cats. A lot of people are really selfish and will do anything they please to an animal because it suits their needs. I mean holy gods, my next door neighbor had his dogs vocal cords "modified", which is a polite way to say cordectomy in which the vocal cords are severed, to quiet the dog's barking. Yes, it's legal, and it's also pretty darned twisted. Train your animals; if you're not willing to do so, don't have pets.
That's all fine and dandy that you believe that, but many other people aren't going to care what they do with their pets. I think its silly to dress up an animal in clothes, but there are people who still do it. The only difference is that I won't go up to them and tell them they're being ridiculous about it. Why? Its not my place.
You don't want your animal declawed? That's fine, don't do it. But other people are going to, regardless of what anyone says, and there isn't much you can do about it.

So wait, if there's no discussion, why are you discussing? If you're just going to dead end it and waste time telling everyone their opinion doesn't really matter, what's the point of posting, crapshack?

Obviously I have no control over another human's actions, but that doesn't mean I cannot do anything about it. As a volunteer with a rescue group, I can make sure people who adopt from us know exactly what declawing surgery entails, and we require adopters sign a contract they will not have the animal declawed. Yes, we have reclaimed animals when people decide to go ahead with the surgery.
We also work with local vets; thanks to us, there are only two vets left in the immediate area who will actually perform the declaw surgery. We canvassed neighborhoods and asked people to sign a petition-most did; our sister rescue group for dogs is doing the same to encourage vets to stop cordectomies. Many of the vets were already denying declaws long before anyone from our group even approached them.

You really should read thoroughly before making your insults, otherwise it just makes you look like an even bigger buffoon.

Was there a point in dropping the "g"? In digging, i mean. Is that like a verbal quirk? Tell you what, since i already smacked you down a couple of notches enough, i'll leave you alone here to broadcast your "discussions" and "points" on this deserted page, good luck to you sir, and please, next time you feel like being superior, think twice- you're not even halfway up on the ladder.
Besides, you'll always have the noob kennels to go back to, and they should be a little more impressed by your pacifism and amazing lingual capacity. Peace.

Right, cus it's only cats that are getting declawed. You discriminate animal rights based on cuteness.

Ah, kids these days, thinking that they're big bad toughguys over the internet. I find it all amusing.
In any case, cats being declawed isn't that big of a deal. If the OP could provide a link that has no animal rights BS tied to it, then maybe I could contribute more.

here is my contribution to this argument - cat declawing is inhumane. the url in my sig proves what kind of monsters humans can be. scroll down to the middle for best results.
Nobody wants to see that, spammer.
