Conduct of Atheists

Before flamers decide to come in and bash this thread, it is not just another 'God isn't real!!!' or 'Find faith!!!!' thread. So please keep your hot headed comments to yourself.

So on to the real thread. I am personally an atheist. But I don't go around yelling at people that have a religion telling them they're morons for believing in nothing. I honestly have a respect for people that have faith, its just not for me. Now another one of my friends also happens to atheist but strongly disagrees with the way I conduct myself. He believes that atheists should conduct themselves in a way that strongly opposes the church, any religion at all really.

This is the common pose of atheism, that is, in the eyes of outsiders. I personally have never seen an atheist, other than him, that go around openly bashing religion, I've only heard of them. Call me sheltered, but I don't think thats what most atheists really are like. I know I'm certainly not like that. So I guess what I'm asking is this: Are there atheists that you know personally that are extremely opposed to the church, or do you agree with me in that atheists are quite civil?

So feel free to open discussion, but please none of the same old flamers from the other side of the belief line.

like any group, there are assholes and there are the civil ones. most of the atheists i've ever seen are the ignorant, narrow-minded, religion-bashing ones.

There are a lot of a*****e athiests. My own brother, before he stopped being a retard, would mindlessly bash Christianity for things that were either untrue, or explained in the Bible (which he had not read).

Personally, I like discussing religion with people. Although I do not believe in any god, I like understanding and sharing my ideas about religion. I always hold discussions with Jehovah's Witness fellas who come to my door, and actually plan on attending various churches to discuss the ideas presented with the clergy. I know more about religion than many of my religious friends, and I think it's important to help people understand their faith, rather than needlessly bash.

Being an atheist doesn't mean you get to be a d**k. I'm an atheist and I'm always respectful of other peoples beliefs (at least IRL, on the ED it's game on bitches pirate ). Thomas Aquinas was a brilliant guy who also happened to be a Catholic monk. Being religious does not instantly mean you're ignorant.

It's similar to the issue of fanatical Christians; the majority of Christians are not people who go about condemning others, but all it takes is a few to behave badly. Suddenly, an entire group of people ends up labeled and stereotyped.

After much debate with the voices in my head, we all came to the conclusion that we're atheist. Now, if religion is your shtick, that's great. Congratulations! Seriously! If your religion makes you happy, that's ********!

Now, if you consult/preach to me/the internet about religion, it's my duty as an atheist to point out where your religion has holes and why/how I think/know that it's a fabrication.

A person should behave how they feel is proper, not how other people feel is improper. Rebelling for the sake of rebellion is bad enough, but being a dog-raping baby-kicker just because somebody else's God said not to is ridiculous.
