Tactical Leg Sweep
I've a brilliant idea. How about everyone wears whatever the ******** they want to wear and stops shitting their pants worrying about what someone else is wearing, and we all collectively move on to something that actually matters?
I do think that clothing does become a matter when politicians and the like "blame the victim" of rape if the person was wearing provocative clothing, for example.
Or let's take the issue of wearing head scarfs in France. Seyla Benhabib does a better job at explaining this than me, but basically there are many issues that come up when immigrant female Muslim students try to wear head scarfs in a classroom, which is supposed to be a sphere totally separate from religion and the like.
Then, as perhaps a post-colonial or an eco-feminist might argue, the problem with clothing production and the fashion industry hurts women in developing nations in textile industries. Blah blah blah blah blah, but long story short, there is a lot to be said or what can be said which can very well relate to "issues that matter".
