There has been some questions on the definition of a Christian.
To me, a Christian is someone who has excepted Jesus Christ into their heart as their savior.
MEANING, I do not think of Mormons, Catholics, and any other sect who doesn't believe that Jesus CHRIST is our savior as Christians.

Since when do Catholics not see Jesus as their savior? I'm a Catholic and I definitely do... not to mention its like a standard prayer thats repeated each sunday... its called the apostle's creed.

1. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
2. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
3. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
4. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
5. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again.
6. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
7. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
8. I believe in the Holy Spirit,
9. the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
10. the forgiveness of sins,
11. the resurrection of the body,
12. and the life everlasting.
Amen.

So, where do we want to start this morning? Any questions? Or do you have beliefs of your own you'd like to open to the public for them to beat at as well? OH, wait, I forgot, they only beat on Chrsitian beliefs, all others are excepted.

Lets try to keep arguments within your own base of knowledge. No quoteing of other threads or people who have expressed their beliefs. Find your own and dont use other people to do so, don't be a robot.
Actually I was just talking about, even though atm I'm very agnostic(have been for a few days now, had a bit of a crisis with my own religion) I have been talking about how a true christian must follow the law of agape and if they don't then they can't really call themselves one.
what do you mean by this law of agape? And what was your crisis, my beliefs may not be the same as yours but I'm sure someone here may be able to help you.

Law of agape.

Quote:
"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[c] 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

I was a buddhist personally and I met another buddhist who told me I was practicing wrong and I realised that buddhism wasn't coherant with my experience of the world, don't worry I don't need help , I like been agnostic its fun. I'm still gonna live the lifestyle though.
Ok.. your quotation there is confusing to me because its not out of the KJV, but I recognise the part and I see where you are coming from.
As far as I am concerned you can not be a Chrisitan without loving God, i think its impossible, you may get mad at God, such as you do a parent, But you still love Him/them.

Its NIV I prefer it cos Its in modern english. The thing most christians miss is the second commandment, which I consider a shame because its beautiful in its simplicity. Especially when you look at the chapter here. its 1 Corinthians 13
Quote:
1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
I was gonna bold the most important bits but the whole thing is beautiful.

Ok.. I have already responded back to a comment very similiar to that. I know they know that Jesus is the son of God but they still pick and choose.

You are right that is VERY beautiful, I still like the KJV better because I feel that in converting it to modern english they watered it down and even left out whole verses, which it is a sin to change the Bible in any way shape or form, its in revalations.

Catholics do believe Jesus is our savior. Hello?
No, they do not, They believe him as great profit but they do not believe that if they accept Jesus Christ into their hearts and repent then they will go to heaven.

Um, I went to Catholic school for three years, and they do indeed believe that Jesus died for their sins. I never once heard them refer to him as a "prophet", only as the "Son of God".
Catholics pick and choose what they want to Believe out of the NT. They repent to priests, not to God himself. The act of the priest being the middle man was taken out when Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Before that we were unworthy to speak to God directly, but because of Jesus's sacrifice now we can. He has washed away our sins making us pure.

I know about Catholic practices and how they're different from what Protestants do. But what you just said here is that Catholics believe Jesus is a prophet, when in fact they do not. They believe he is the son of God, and to claim that they believe anything else is not only false, it's disrespectful of their right to worship and believe as they choose, however illogical those beliefs may me. If someone says "I believe X" you can say "I think that's wrong," but saying "No you don't" is just disrespectful and rude.

Jesus is no only the Son of God but also a prophet, he fortold of many things, including the rature and what not. AND I told you in your other post that i know that catholics believe this. It still doesn't counter that I believe Catholics not to be true Christians.

if I had to choose I'd say Baptist, but not the Baptist that everyone sees in the movies. I dont yell and scream at people that if they dont repent then they'll be damned to hell, I think thats no way to get through to someone if you are really worried they are gunna go to hell.

All you were saying on the last page, despite what others were telling you was that "I know that catholics do not belive in Jesus as their savoir."
oh and about the oldest church in exisitance, just because they are the oldest church in existance doesn't mean they dont pick and choose what they want to beleive out of the NT. They base their strong values on the OT which most of is good, but when it comes to salvation they dont have it.
By the way, lets assume you stop being stubborn, and realize that Catholics do worship Jesus and see him as our savior, then why are we still not christians? (in your opinion anyway?)
