That font is too damn small so I refuse to read it. I already w know what your point is anyway.

This is nothing new. There are obviously no dark-skinned persons in the universe capable of playing dark-skinned roles. Not the good guys anyway. At least that's the gist of what people are saying. "The acting ability matters more than the appearance" is suggesting that they couldn't find any good dark-skinned actors to play the dark-skinned parts. I have a pretty damn hard time believing that, especially since they just happen to pop up for the bad guy roles. And it's never deplorable. It's just creative. Sure.

I don't know why people are so quick to dismiss things. Are they just scared to address what's happening? Waiting for someone else to do it? Afraid to be acknowledged for recognizing s**t when they see it instead of acting like it's nothing like everyone else?

(These are general questions and not particularly about Avatar.) Do you see no problem in hiring a white man to play a black man or vice-versa? What message is that sending across? Make-up doesn't matter. How much sense does it make to hire someone to look like someone else when you can just get someone who looks like the person in the first place? What's the problem in hiring an asian person to play an asian part? If you know anything about the population of the world, you'll know there are a hell of a lot more asians than whites, so it makes little to no sense to assume that there are more white persons capable of playing the part than asians.

And a problem in itself is how it is always whites playing the parts of other races or darker individuals. There aren't too many instances where other races are playing whites.
Did you also complain that Chinese actors played Japanese characters in the Memoirs of a Geisha movie?

As a matter of fact, I did. Yeah, they may "look" the "same" but there are so many different factors to it.

Oh yeah, and Christie Monteiro, a black/brazillian woman is being played by a white woman in the new Tekken movie. What's up with that? gonk

I also find it kind of funny that a mojority of people oon these boards who say to get over this sort of thing...are white. rolleyes Well, at least their avis anyway.

This is absolutely ridiculous.
They're not choosing actors based on nationality or skin color.
They're basing it on ACTING ABILITY.

If you don't like the way they're doing it, then don't support it.
You making a thread and bashing it is pretty much free publicity.
You're helping push the movie into the limelight.

Saying that it's only based on acting ability is bull. If it was only based on acting ability, they wouldn't need to specify races and ethnicities in the casting call sheets. Do you mean to tell me that in this entire world, there's no one other than a Caucasian that can play the part? WHat if a white guy played Bob Marley better than someone of Carribean decent? Should he get the part?

signed the petition also but I agree the opening post's font was too small to read and it hurt my eyes. I had to skim it to the links. op please make a note of that. a lot of valid arguments have been killed by small fonts and our inability to read them without straining our eyes.

There's a prom soon, you know.
(Also, my rates? They're quite low.)

It sucks, I know. the only thing |I'll have an iddue with if they didn't put a s**t load of makeup on to hide that whiteness/darkness.

(Do you know how to whistle? Put your lips together and blow...)
How about you give this Hedonist a show?

...And when we buried him beneath the willow,
the angels sang a whiskey lullaby.

A biography on a man that was actually black is completely different than to that of a fictional character that is subject to change.
In the X-Men comics, Nick Fury was a white man.
Now all of a sudden he's black and being played by Samuel L. Jackson in the movies.
So yes, I'm gonna say it's based on acting ability.
Granted, there are some movies that cast for certain elasticities.
This movie started out with which races it was going to be casting for.
It wasn't, oh well Asians suck at acting, so lets make 2 tribes white.
If you honestly believe that, you're a moron.

- You're right about the fiction/non-fiction thing.
- I thought Nick Fury was weird, too.

No, I don't believe that, and there's no need for name calling. I simply think that when you have a show, and the ENTIRE CAST of it is asian, and then somehow everyone became white in the movie, it's just wrrong. neutral

I know right!!!!!! Why can't we just get over the fact that there are no asians capable of playing asian parts!

What would we do witout white people and their amazing ability to play everyone? Why, without them, no other race roles would exist in movies!
