You my friend just picked the wrong time to call people with autism assholes.

And here we go, I haven't even read past this line and I knew it was about me... Let me guess... I'm a ******** p***k, a jerk, a b*****d, stupid, and you don't agree with me....

But you're going to say it in a completely irrelevant stupid way, that's going to completely backfire.

Fiore di Verita

Autism is not a disease it is a disorder.

So?
Fiore di Verita

How can you sit there and cay something like that about how they're assholes.

If you think you're entitled to something because you're different, you're an a*****e.

A dumb a*****e, no less.
Fiore di Verita

You know what you are just an ignorant b*****d that doesn't know anything and you should be educated before you make any stupid comments about something you do not know.

Oh Lardy Lardy He Said Disease Instead of Disorder! Quick, grab the pitchforks and torches!

Cry me a river numbnuts. My life doesn't have to revolve around the needs of people who bang their heads on walls, and refuse to look me in the eye when they mumble in their strange language consisting of gargles and burps, probably thinking I can understand them or someshit.

Yes, though autism is becoming more common, a lot of people still do not understand it, and by the sounds of it including you.

By the sounds of it, you're new here....And stupid.

I'm not new here. I've been here since '05
I might be new to this forum but that doesn't matter, besides this was posted back in August.

I might be stupid for many reasons but it's not for something that I've been going to school for and studying.

OKay so if you were deaf, mute, or blind, or has a cognitive disorder you would be singing a whole different tune.
Just because your normal you think you're entitled to everything, some people do need special help. And that is why there is the ADA: american disability act. so that all are treated equally and those with disorders (or diseases) can be as independent as possible)

And I've been here since '04, see how much I care?

I don't give a good goddamn when it was originally posted.

What's that? How to be an idiot?

I wouldn't be singing at all, due to being a mute. Duh.

I don't remembering say one way or another that I was normal.

I said "IF YOU THINK YOU'RE ******** ENTITLED TO SOMETHING, YOU'RE AN a*****e"

******** of lacking the ability to read.

some people do need special help.

Some turtles in the wild get turned on their back and die.

Let's equip them all with Roll-Bars.

A dog that's been shown to do ******** nothing for a kid, isn't covered by the ADA.

That's called "A spoiled brat, using his 'disability' as a means to get more s**t"
I find myself agreeing with Kapland. gonk
It is a fair question; Kaleb does not need that animal; whether or not he will do better in school due to any given factor is not the school's only concern. The only concern I'd have is about Kaleb's running in the street, but not all autistic children do that, so it's not a good example.

i can't really vote on the poll so i'll say it.

i don't think they should be banned, but the dogs MUST be trained service dogs, not just the family pet because that would just cause more problems.

like if i was a classmate of kaleb's i would've been so mad. seriously, an untrained dog in a class of 30 little kids that only one can play with? that's just asking for junior anarchy.

The article mentioned that the dogs are trained service dogs. As Kaleb's classmate, I might be upset at first but once I understood that Chewy was a service dog I'd get over it.

Putting it out there... how many of you had pet [insert small gerbit/ roden name here] as an elementary go-er? I did in grade six. I was allergic to it and nobody seemed to care.
They can keep the kid out of the street without a dog, it's called a teacher.

If he really must have a dog, he needs to be in special ed. If he's in special ed they have aides out the wazoo to keep the little special snowflakes in check.

If the kid needs a dog outside school where's it's not as supervised, fine. It needs to stay home though.
no dogs or peanuts should be allowed in schools because of....... allergies

And teachers have to watch the other students too, not just the one. You don't know the whole situation and there isn't even a mention of what classes he's in, so you have no reason to b***h about what type of class he's in.

So if a blind kid had seeing-eye dog, they shouldn't be allowed to take it to school?

Or corn or cinnamon or wheat or pollen or dust or kids who have furry pets (the fur gets stuck to clothing).
I'm autistic and say yes it should be banned. The real world doesn't let autistics carry around odd seming stimmy items so why should we accomedate the few who happen to want a dog?

I am so calmed by my hamster that i can skip doses of my antianxiety med but in the real world it's not okay to carry around a hamster. I know cases of autistic children who compulsivly masterbate to calm themselves but again it's not okay in a real world.

We're not doing them favors by allowing this. If the kid doesn't learn to control himself in a more subtle appropiate way it will prevent him from getting a job. Autistics who are lower functioing here often work in a bakery or grocery store; neither of which are good places for a dog.

Ideally no. .

One on one aide. This is where the student has a human who follows him. Humans do not cause allergies, and disrupt classes as much as a dog.

Whatever kind of classes he's in he can have an aide. If he's so bad he can't function without help he needs to have a one on one aide or be in a self contained/special ed classroom where there are more employees that can watch him and gates and buzzers to make SURE he doesn't get away.

The blind kid's dog serves a more legitimate purpose. The kid is blind all the time. The autistic kid isn't barreling into traffic in the middle of the halls. The dog is mostly for comfort. They said so themselves. School is to learn, not to be comfortable.
I'm curious who assigns the children these dogs, and whether it's under any clinical advisement.

Since they are trained for that particular task I would assume so. There's information on it in the article provided in the OP, the link.
