Does lack of faith make you unhappy?
Many theists think that because atheists don't believe in any God(s) that they live without love, hope or any happiness.
They think that life without an afterlife isn't worth living.
Is this right?
Your beliefs are not the only ones, and just because you believe your god to be the greatest thing in the universe does not mean other people do.
The belief among atheists is that the creation of life on earth was a purely random occurrence, and a very slim chance, which is only made possible by the billions upon billions of planets in the universe and the different variables required for life to take place.
As you can probably guess, that makes Earth incredibly lucky, it's been granted a one in billions chance.
Who wouldn't be happy to be so lucky?
Does no hope of an afterlife mean you're depressed?
A common idea is that our level of sentience as human beings puts us in a different league than other forms of life on the planet. That we above all others deserve more than just a physical body and more than one lifetime of consciousness.
But why should we? Why should we deserve to live for eternity in another form?
We're born from nothing, single cells, yet we all have a right to live for eternity?
Wouldn't the afterlife be grossly overpopulated? Millions of people are born and die each year and they flood into this afterlife constantly.
I personally think that to think we deserve an afterlife is very egotistical of the human race.
We should be happy with the years we have.
Lastly, most theists believe that love is a divine spiritual feeling, that can't exist without some higher being. However science can tell you that the feeling of 'love' is a combination of many psychological and hormonal influences. But that doesn't make it any less real. Love still matters, love enables us to care for other people, and it makes people happy.
It's not the most brilliant and divine thing to believe in. But atheists believe it because they find it to be the most realistic situation.
Life without God is fine.
For the record I'm agnostic, I just understand the atheist point of view and think everyone should be able to understand it.
