The problems of the mind are intricately linked to the body, and as a psychiatrist, you have to recognize that. Drugs DO work, and it is not bad science to look search around for the best medication through trial and error. That is what science is. That's how we know about the wave/particle duality of light, how we know that we can have disease-like symptoms in absense of bacteria and viruses (though malnutrition), and how we know that certain house designs are better than others, depending on where you are.

Modern day psychoreactive drugs are dissasociative narcotics most of the time. That is why kids are using them to trip balls. Of course the drugs make you feel better. That is one of the effects of SSRI medications. It is the same sort of feelings that come from things like ketamine, DXM, excstacy, and PCP. Of course people would not take them if they did not make them feel good. However, you are talking about people who have the same idea of what is actually happening as a good dealer.

The fact that they get kickbacks to prescribe these drugs casts a huge shadow of doubt over the entire industry. Psych is a pseudo science. A lot of it's conclusions are anecdotal as true studies are exceptionally hard to accomplish in a purely scientific method. It is just the nature of humans that you cannot remove the environmental issues and get a proper statistical sampling of the society with present resources so things like statistical correlations are employed. However, it cannot presently be considered full scientific proof.

If you add to that pharmacuetical bribery you are really just wrecking the entire claim of Scientific evidence. Even the basics of nature vs nurture are not fully understood and continually debated.

This is not just a problem in psychiatry, but also in the whole medical field. Doctors are paid to prescribe drugs, but people like you don't see any problem with that. The next time you go to your shrink check around for the signs like pens and office items with drug names on them. These things are given out for free to old people because it is advertising.

Psychiatry is not exclusively limited to the assignment of drugs. I will agree that our current system of a pill-popping society is a very flawed and dangerous one. But I have undergone therapy without drugs and it has proven to be quite effective and healthy.

Pill popping has become the recommended cure in light of modern psychiatrist ignorance. Yes, if we could get some competent people in psychiatry instead of the halfwits they are pumping out today i would agree with you, but that is a problem with licensing and our educational system. It is easy to prescribe a pill, plus it is profiteable. However, for those people without true neurochemical problems it is just like giving them some narcotic to mask their problems.

Not in my experience at Kiaser. Even though my case with anxiety is severe, they have avoided giving me drugs for years. My doctor is a good doctor, and advises me to try absolutely every other option before resorting to drugs. I'm actually reaching the end of my rope and might actually need some sort of pharmaceutical treatment. People who actually need the medication do exist.

It is good that you are aware of the issue and I think the only way to stop the issue is to speak about it. If you're in college, write a thesis about it. Get it published. Spread the word. Instead of saying of psychology isn't a science, perhaps you should take the approach that it is a science that needs a lot of improvement. State why and how it can be fixed if it's so simple. Sitting around and yapping at a bunch of strangers on the internet about it isn't going to change a thing.

There is no specified rule that Christians cannot read Harry Potter. It has not been deemed as sinful OFFICIALLY by the entire church, whereas Scientology doesn't have these hundreds of "sects." A CHRISTIAN wrote Harry Potter and MANY Christians read and enjoy the series knowing it is FICTIONAL.
