Update:yeah I decided to change the name because someone did recommend it and well I was inclined to agree... and yes i said official, because well.. I'd like to think the mod's would approve especially considering the validity and well establishment of this particular thread, if they do wish for the name to be changed to unofficial, them lease simply PM me and it will be done... as well I would like to request that it be stickied... I mean.. if eminem and chingy get stickies i think breakdancing (as well the threads devoted to graphitti and turntableism should get their sticky status as well depending how well they're doing...) 3nodding
alright folks... i believe this to be a fairly needed lesson. I do not in any way profess to being a guru on this or anything of that sort, but i am good at looking things up on the internet and making my own conclusions.
thanks to the media break dancing/b-boying has become "popular" again, featured in anything from a cereal commercial to marlyn manson and christina aguilara video's. i feel that people are all to often miss informed about b-boying, its history and true meaning. this is to hopefully help educate people who are interested in taking it up, who have already taken it up, or who simply like watching it (no we are NOT your god damn dancing monkey's... if you intend to treat us as such, at least get us a red fez and vest, and a tin cup first)
some links that give a fairly clear perspective on its history are
http://www.globaldarkness.com/articles/history of breaking.htm
(from a fairly unbiased stand point but only goes up to about the early 80's)
http://www.jahsonic.com/Breakdance.html (from a british stand point I believe and goes more into the 90's)
and probably one of the best sites i can forward you to is http://www.mrwiggleshiphop.net/ look in the side bar there is one section entitled " hip hop time line" and another entitled "hip hop knowledge"
if you only intend to look at one site look at the last, Mr. Wigglez was there for a large portion of the history (mostly after the 80's) and Has made this his life
