Well of course if you watch a TKD match they will use their legs all the time, the martial arts main style is USING THE LEGS!
Their not taught to use fists, only the legs really.
As a student of TKD I know that is a bold face lie. We are taught and encouraged to use both our hands and legs. To neglect such a powerful weapon as our hands would be foolish.
And besides, watching a match and watching the style are two different things.
Well I have gone up against a so-called Tae Kwon Do black belts just in point sparring. I am not at point sparring but, your style is so predictable. Your either going to go for wheel kicks or side thrust and not try to follow it up then continue to get dominanted with straight out blitzs when you get there timing down. Its the tendencys I see in Tae Kwon Do martial artist that make me question the martial art itself. Nice kicks and quick footwork will only get Martial Artist so far. Its critical that Tae Kwon Do to evolve because anyone with a basic idea of range ground and timing will just ruin a Tae Kwon Do fighters. That goes for people who know how to fight on the inside also because most people usually do get on the inside and wreck TKD fighters.
Which is exactly why I never went to a tournament in my Taekwondo days. The competitors have their arms dangling on their sides, which made my jaw drop when I started watching competition videos. Granted, I'm sure most of them used their fists during a casual spar in their Dojang but refuse to in an actual tourney thanks to WTF (World Taekwondo Federation, funny acronym) and their restricting point system. Once I found out punching didn't get you squat points, what made me disappointed was the competitors I'd be fighting. Basically, I'd go from swinging to playing p***y-foot with the other guy which I refused to do.
Thats just my two cents on the tournaments.
