My dojo is a 30 minute drive but I feel it's worth it.
Well, thats the important part. I just hate driving far in the city traffic, its really convenient.

Plus, I'm really lazy and doubt I could remember alot of kata forms.
My cousin's boxing gym just got its windows broken by some wisecrack who thought it'd be fun to throw rocks at it.

Ugh... seriously, the nerve of some people...
Oi! Sorry for not posting for a while!

I have been doing private lessons with my master every other week to help with my training (school and work take up a lot of timez), and to get ready for my 3rd Dan test in December. I gotta say it is a hecks of a work out when you're the only student, but it is so worth the regular asthma attack and much more! ^-^

Yea it is a pain at times. I really want to find some place that teaches Shuai Jiao.
Sounds a bit like San Shou.
Shaui Jiao is San Shou's wrestling antithesis.
Ohh, I see, I see.

There isn't much of the chinese arts here in Florida. I found two temples near me that teach Praying Mantis style.

*decides to jump in* Were you going to try out either school to see how you like it?
I'm actually studying at a Choi Kwang Do dojang that is like, within walking distance of my house. This is the second place I've studied, and I plan on continuing my cross-training but not for awhile. But yes, I am thinking about it. I want to learn everything lol. The Wah Lum Temple is highly respected in my area, but I've heard a few disparaging things about them. I'm not really sure what to believe.

What have you heard about them to be negative? Almost every studio in my area has both a negative and a positive reputation, except one "Shoulin Kenpo" school - that place is just... well, bull.
Anyone know any good submissions to pull off when your opponent goes to stacked guard on you? Im tired of faild Knee bar and helicopter armbar attempts and pushing him away doesnt really suit my style...

Well, I've heard that they can be kind of racist towards white people. It is a pretty serious claim, so I'm not sure how to take it. I have heard that alot of the traditional Chinese martial arts only like to keep their martial arts amongst themselves, as its a form of national pride and such.

I'm kind of a novice, but I'll try my hand at this. Usually I find the best way to avoid getting put into bad situations when I'm getting stacked is to go on the offensive, or atleast be active. If you expect that is what the person is going to do, you should try for a sweep when they begin to stack.

Assuming that doesn't work, I've often found success by scissoring my legs around their head to gain control again, and then pull them down and work for a triangle. It looks goofy but it works for me. Another possibility is if they're nearly standing, you can put your knees into their chest, and grab hold of their ankles and just rip it so they fall backwards.

But yeah, aside from kneebar attempts and whirling around for armbars, there isn't too much you can do. I think the sweep is the best idea. That, or you can just grip onto them for dear life since they're going to need to work to separate you to do any real work.
