What is Choi Kwang Do like? It sounds Korean, but I'm not sure.

Sorry I disappeared, I subscribed.

Well, from what I've learned, CKD is a derivative of TKD where they removed all the damaging lockout moves. From what I'm doing, its like traditionalized kickboxing with belts. I think my instructor varies a bit from a more pure CKD school.

I describe the cirriculum as MTA, or Mixed Traditional Arts because we do the varied stand-up one day, aikido and judo (or standing grappling) one day, and ground work the next.

I took BJJ for six months and when I compare the two, I really do feel like I'm learning at this new school. I like it alot.
weeeeeeee...... 4laugh
I used to attend a tae kwon do dojang for around 8 years, but it turned into a McDojang, which was one of the reasons why I quit going. The place is still operating, but it's blatantly a McDojang now--the bus that picks up its students has the instructor's face on it, even! I quit while I was a 1st-degree black belt, and I'm glad I did. I miss the old instructor, who would put everyone through obstacle courses and didn't have a point-based test system; you either passed or failed.

Most of my test points were scored in the sparring and board-breaking categories. I have a tough time getting the poomsei right, even with practice, partially because of my short attention span. XD Ballet lessons really helped my flexibility and balance in tae kwon do.

I've been interested in many other fighting arts, such a boxing, the Praying Mantis schools of kung fu, and muay thai, but it's the basic steps I've been practicing from online tutorials and books.

Balance is something I've been stressing these days; stuff like balancing on one leg while brushing my teeth, on the phone, or even fixing cereal. It's something I'm improving in!
Sorry to hear it didn't go well, but reaching black belt is still an impressive accomplishment. There is a very well decorated Praying Mantis KF temple here in Orlando, Fl.
Wow, there is so many martial art names...I think some of you guys are making them up.

why would we be making these names up?

I'm feeling pretty good right now, today Sensei told me he was impressed and recommended that I go to belt promotions. BOUT TIME!

Thats awesome. I couldn't really find any adult karate near me, just an Aikido place.

There is apparently a place that teaches American Kempo but its like 20 minutes away and my Dojang is within walking distance.
