yup, it just makes things more fun in general. A couple guys were talking smack and the black belts heard, it was too funny, they got to be the examples for every drill, even tho no one really needed an example... rofl rofl rofl
i hate when that happens to me...just because i'm the head instructor's '2nd son' and i'm 'fun to play with' stare
@ Carsayzlyum: I remember such classes. Ah, the painful memories of four straight hours of Hapkido, and Taekwondo, and then topping it off at the end of the day with a few hundred repetitive motions with a bokken.... Lukcy!

@ sekchi-toguchi: 21 seems so young to run a school all by yourself. I get exhausted enough just teaching three hours twice a week. But I suppose that has something to do with school and a second job... I hope to make a career in voice acting, but I really, really hope to have some kind of part time program one day that will help continue teaching and learning.

i'll be the owner, but the current head instructor will still be coming to teach (owned the school for 19 yrs retired passed the school on, came back to teach after a year, but isn't here nearly as regularly as he used to be.) and the guy who owns it now plans on training still, so i will still have their help, and guidance. i'll be running the business part mostly, and will be leading more classes (so far i've only actually lead class twice.) like the guy who owns the dojo now leads when sensei rod isn't there, so instead of mike (current owner) leading class i'd be the one to lead class.

and i'm so glad i woke up for class this morning! it was fun, got to see my ex again for the first time in 6 months. and a marine is signing up for class, he was stationed in okinawa and studied goju ryu there, and said that we do things almost the exact same way as they did, so that makes me smile a bit. ^_^

It would still be a lot of pressure for me. I'm only twenty; I just can't see myself managing that much business responsibility. I love so much to teach but the business side makes me a little uneasy. It can be very corrupting.

i'll be nervous for the first little while, but i already have a little bit of experience from running the MMA program, and a good little bit of experience from the family bike shop too.

The best of luck then. I hope to one day be financially secure enough to open a small school and not worry about having to make a living out of it.

I'm going to be taking Chinese Kung Fu this fall... Anyone else take it? How is it?

Also, I've heard of "McDojos"... How do you feel about them, and how would one identify one?

A good reputation is a lucky thing to have a hold of by default. Is the studio on rent or will you own it?

The closest thing I've done is Kenpo which has it's roots in Chinese Gung Fu/Chuan Fa. You can identify a mcdojo by whether or not they are as good as they say they are. If they seem like they promote people faster than mcdonalds makes cheeseburgers there is a bit of a problem.

For the record I love Kenpo and Chinese Kung Fu was one of my original influences in the martial arts, so I really hope you enjoy it. ^~^

mcdojos are normally identified by contracts, and rank guarantees. another good way to know if a style is legit or not is if it looks like everyone should be wearing a power rangers outfit instead of a gi. (lots of overly fancy jump, spinning techniques etc.)

SRSBK? Forgive me if I should already know what that means... sweatdrop
I'm no fan of contracts but I've seen them used in so many places now... Taekwondo has really embarrassed itself as a martial art...

Hah, while I admire that meaning a name like that would get so much rap from "hardcore" fighters.
