In Taekwondo I am a second degree black belt. In Hapkido I am a first Dan and in Haedong Kumdo I am a first Dan. And you?
i'm on the varsity judo and wrestling team for my high school.

i'm a blue belt in judo
I like a lot of the aspects of Judo. A lot of it has been integrated into Hapkido which is one of the reasons for a lot of the take downs and throws.
Can anyone refer me to a good website to learn the basics of Kenjutsu? Or somebody on Gaia who might be able to teach me?

I've seen many websites around that have a little information, but they're often not descriptive enough, or have very little to offer.

I might be opening my own dojo in the near future, so I want to accelerate my learning of the art so that I might be able to incorporate it.
Don't know of any, sorry.
Well... it's one thing to get ideas of some things in the martial arts from the internet, but to try to learn an actual style from a website... Seems a little... eh... A person can really only learn the martial arts from an instructor. We expand on things in our own ways, but things have to be taught to us first. It really can't happen in cyber space... If you're just trying to learn some sword technique to incorporate into your teaching, then you really don't need any accellerated training. An easy thing to do I think would be to look around your area at martial arts schools and see if any of them teach weapons, and see if the samurai sword is one of those weapons. Just try their classes for a little while and get a taste of the sword. Then incorporate it into your system in your own way ^_^ .

I would join a new dojo, but I'm an important part in my current dojo. There, we only do broadsword, staff, and escrima.

At my level in Kempo, I have a great understanding of the use of stances and transitions. The finesse and such. This part of martial skill can be easily applied to new basic material.
The problem I really have is a lack of basic material for Kenjutsu.

Ah, I see. Well what I meant was that you should simply take a few different classes at another studio - one that teaches kenjutsu or another art of the katana. Most schools offer some kind of trial class or classes. I suggest trying that out. Then once you've learned the basic cuts and blocks with a katana, you can incorporate it into your Kempo. May I ask what level you are at in Kempo? And whereabouts do you live.

Shodan, in New Mexico.
Instead of simply a class, we are family. My teacher used to not charge anything aside from the uniform and belts provided.

I shall try that, then, if I can figure a way around my transportation problem.

Good luck to you then.
Well, being one of the only people on this thread, I'm fine... ish.
I gotta say, I'm a very paranoid person. Lately I've been fretting like crazy about opening my school in the future. I'm seriously wondering if I'll be able to get the students I need to survive...

Advertise, advertise, advertise. The school will sell itself depending on what groups you're reaching out to.
Anyway, I'm good. Sprained my ankle, and I have a tournament this weekend in MI. ;D

Thanksoo. I've always known that schools kind of just sell themselves, I'm just ever so slightly worried about it. As long as I have a back up plan I guess. Good luck with your tournament.
