'Ello! How nice it is to see such communal exchange. Forgive me for my absence. I've been going to school full time+ on top of work and teaching.
My original instructor would whack our legs into position with his shinai. That thing was loud but darn it, I've got a proper front stance.
Control is one of the main reasons I have a problem with "distance training" via videos and books. One might be able to learn the basics of a technique, but the technique cannot be demonstrated on them by someone with experience. I know how to not break someone's arm in an arm bar because I've had masters do it to me - I know first hand how bad it hurts.
Hm, to sum up the idea I can say this:
I can kick because I've been kicked.
I can throw because I've been thrown.
exactly, in my dojo the seniors do the technique on the juniors because you once you know what it feels like for some reason it's just easier to do it.
great class this morning. i actually didn't have to get my MPTT out...not sure how i feel about that.
we did some fun races across the floor, army crawl, 'gator crawl, etc. lol a student that was 225lbs hopped on my back for the army crawls...and omg, it was hard...guess thats what i get for hopping on his back for the...floor cleaners(?) (lay flat, palms down on the floor using only your arms pull yourself forward)
