Heh, very true. I'm a very slow learner but I find I'm pretty good at stuff if I give it enough practice. I'm very awkward on my feet since I'm not a natural striker. My Choi Kwang Do dojang does alot of everything, but the one they do that kinda confounds me is they train in left front and right front stance equally so for awhile, it was extremely awkward.

It takes getting used to, but it really is better to practice things equally on both sides.

Yeah, I've started to really adapt to southpaw. I'm not exactly comfortable throwing punches from it though, my left straight sucks lol. It just doesn't feel right.

But I hope that one day I could learn enough to open my own studio.

I've found that the best way to learn something new for the first time, whether its on the left or the right side, is to practice it very slowly. The thing to understand about all motion, is that it is built up of countless smaller motions. So when you're throwing a punch with your left hand, reverse in your mind exactly what you should do with your right hand, and practice that very slowly, bit by bit. Eventually, speed will come on it's own. Never try to force yourself to be fast at something before you're ready.

*Nods* Thank you

When I was in jits, I'd always have to work with kids that would never take time to learn a throw or a sweep and I'd go flying in a terrible way. I hated working on throws because if you do the throw right, you can set the person down pretty lightly.

You don't have to fling them into the Earth stare

If you really know what you're doing, you should be able to demonstrate a lot of control in a lot of ways. One thing I love to do is kick right up to a persons face and hold my foot there. Throwing is another good example - if you know what you're doing you should be able to perform the technique without slamming your partner into the ground.

One of the coolest example of control I ever did was throw a punch but stopped right before it hit my friends eye. He said he felt me touch his eyelashes with it xd

I've known people who've said they could do that, but then their punch stops like a foot away from someone's face... Wowee...

True, but I believe that one shouldn't talk unless they know what they're talking about or tell the truth. And I apply that to myself, too

I seriously need some advice on my grappling, I keep making beginner mistakes but then again I am still a beginner. Last Friday we where doing grappling at Karate since it was pretty much open gym. Sensei had one of his friends there who had extensive training in Brazilian jujitsu. He was watching a grappling session with me and the black belt I usually work with. For the first time ever I managed to submit him, I forget the name of the hold I used but it was like I had him in a rear naked choke from the mount while using my chest to smother and disrupt his breathing. The guy was watching and had me put him in the same move to demonstrate how to escape from it. So I do and he does a nerve pinch on me that left a bruise under my right arm. He sweeps me and ends up on top briefly before I roll my hips to get back to my feet. We where in kind of a greco roman clinch before I dragged it to the ground and took his back, obviously going for a rear naked choke. He holds on to my right arm something I wasn't really paying attention to... While he's holding firmly onto my arm I lift and jerk and pretty much injured myself, it felt like my spine had been jacked up a few notches and I'd been punched in the stomach simultaneously...Talk about rookie mistakes lol.

Don't know what to tell you - I only do a little ground grappling...

Not my specialty either. Sorry

I mean, if you're taping out black belts, I don't really know what to say.

I do indeed. Absolutely love Jackie Chan's old stuff.

Like the Drunken Master?

I recently bought The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, and its awesome.

Genghis Khan

Personally, my favorite martial arts movie is 'Heroes of the East' or 'Ninja Challenges Shaolin' (I own the latter, but have found it with the former title.) It's where a bunch of Japanese masters fight against one Chinese Kung fu student, in one on one matches. It's pretty cool seeing the two different cultures' fighting styles going head to head. The movie is biased towards the Kung Fu student, though, as the director was Chinese himself, but it's still pretty good.

Guns for show, knives for a pro.

I havn't seen a lot of old ones, but i know plenty of recent ones. The Forbidden Kingdom was great, and it had Jackie Chan AND Jet Li in it. For tactical martial arts, watch Taken
